"Father spread his hands. "Oh, hell boy. I don't know much about being a father" (Yep 43). Moon Shadow saw how guilty Father felt. He told him that he didn't know how to be a good son, to make him feel better.

Chapter 4-Uncle Bright Star revealed in the book that he is very stubborn. The text states, ""'But you could never force him to admit he was wrong. Uncle pressed his lips tightly together and his eyebrows drew closer together. 'What makes you think I was going to say I was sorry?'" (Yep 86). He is very sure about how he feels and doesn't plan on changing it. Uncle Bright Star won't accept being wrong and force his opinions on someone else, even if he is wrong in the end.

Chapter 5-Father brought up what Tiger General about him beating of his son. Tiger General makes a smart-alic response to Father. The text says, "He beat up my son for the money he had collected," Father said. "Do you protect child beaters and thieves?" The Tiger General considered that for a moment and then turned in the doorway. "Tell your brother that he has a caller." There was a scuffling from within... "'I'm sick. A dobey is always sick," he said to Father" "You weren't too sick to beat up my boy. Now fight," Father said" (Yep 114). Tiger General seems to feel to remorse for beating up a kid and stealing his hard earned money. 

Chapter 6-Hand Clap was seemed almost speechless because he was so excited to see the piles of gold coins. The text states, "'I can just smell the gold coins piled in all these houses, and I can justs see all these poor demons sittin on top of their heaps of gold, crying because their clock's busted and they don't know how to fix it" (Yep 126). He was so excited and also disgusted of how the demon men act, so small and useless.  

Chapter 7-Mr. Lee is very short tempered and gets mad easily, sometimes even without cause. The text says, “You talk too much; Father snapped. Father crumpled up the letter and threw it into a corner’ (Yep 168). Father would rather look at the cup as being half empty rather than half full, no matter what the situation. He is very confident in what he believes to be true and false. He will be a the person to rely on to tell the hard cold truth, no matter what it will do on your feelings or health.

Chapter 8-Robin is very demanding and needy for things to go the proper way. For example “Let’s go over here,’ Robin said. ‘Why?’ ‘Because I want to”’ (Yep 175). Robin wants what she wants and does not listen if you try to ignore her or tell her that she is wrong. She will do what her heart desires no matter what.

The text states, "I was a little afraid then at having to play the host to Robin and Miss Whitlaw; but then I realized that they were probably just as afraid of being my guests. And I thought of what Mother had said" (Yep 232). Moonshadow soon got over the nervousness and sadness and was a pretty good host.

He was very excited, specifically about the kite. For example, the text said, "Under his arm he had a kite. But what a kite! The frame of light bamboo sticks had been bent, tied, and glued into the shape of a butterfly, and then the frame had been covered with rice paper, which is a thin, translucent kind of paper" (Yep 35). Moon Shadow  was very excited  to receive a kite. He loved the kites that his father made for him.

Chapter 9-Moon Shadow though that the tradition that the Chinese culture does is very different than what the demon world is. Moon Shadow tells what he does when it is Chinese New Year. The text says, "We got out to the grave and sweep them and clean them and tell the dead about some of the things that have happened. Then we make them offerings of food, only we don't give all of it to them. After all, it's a banquet where we all share. So we take home some of the better things to eat, knowing the hungry dead will be happy. Unlike the other holidays, it is determined by a solar calendar like that of the demons, and so it is always on April 5" (Yep 192). Moon Shadow thought it was kind of weird thing to do, go to a cemetery to celebrate the dead. He enjoys the other customs for Chinese New Year, Moonshadow, Father, and other Chinese people go to the cemetery and celebrate the deceased people. Chapter 10-Uncle decides to stay in the company's building for as long as he can because he doesn't want to be with the demon people in the park. The text states, "Uncle was standing in the door, a pistol in his hands. One of his sleeves was torn and there was a cut over his eye, but otherwise he was as unchanged as the building" (Yep 225-226). Uncle was very reluctant to not go. He was trying to figure out anyway to be able to stay.

Chapter 12-Uncle is starting to help Father with his dream. The text says, "'I came to help," Uncle snapped. "Not because I believe in your crazy dream" (Yep 292). The text states, ""He stared up at the sky with a frown and pulled his collar up about his neck. The rain ran down the brim of his hat, splattering on his shoulders" (Yep 101). The expression on Black Dogs face is heartbreaking, as he looked up at the sky he was filling with sorrow. The text says, "I knew she was afraid of the place, because every chance we got, she would take me into the small temple in our village and we would pray for Father's safety, though she would never tell me what she was afraid of. It was a small satisfaction to her that our prayers had worked so far" (Yep 2). Father has been gone for years and has is doing things that could possibly get him killed. 

Chapter 9-Miss Whitlaw showed great strength when she was willing to threaten to beat people so they would help. The text says, "Miss Whitlaw stepped to the center of the street and help out her arms. "We still have time," she pleaded. "Please help" (Yep 214). Miss Whitlaw was willing to do almost anything to help save people who were trapped under the extra scraps from the earthquake. 

Chapter 11-Mother seems be to very lonely. She wrote Moon Shadow a letter expressing how much she misses holding him. The text says, "It is very hard to say these things by the hand of another. I long to hold you but the only comfort I can offer are these words which I myself cannot write. But though the words are written by another, they are my words nonetheless...I wish more than ever that I could be with you right now, for your father has undertaken no small task; but since I cannot be there, you much love him doubly hard" (Yep 263-264).
