(IDEA 2004) defines it as "any time, piece of equipment, or product system, whether commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain or improve functional capabilities of a child with a disability"

assistive technology is broken down in two parts: assistive tech device and assistive tech services

High-Medium-Low

High Tech -High-tech devices incorporate sophisticated electronics or computers. Medium Tech- Medium-tech devices are relatively complicated mechanical devices, such as wheelchairs. Low Tech -Low-tech items are less sophisticated and can include devices such as adapted spoon handles, non-tipping drinking cups, and Velcro fasteners.

I like how you highlighted the main points of what you learned in each activity we did in this lesson. I too mentioned the High-Medium-Low devices on my wall as well. I think teachers should be aware and have knowledge in each device to help assist their students. For instance, I did not know that when a person uses a wheelchair that falls under the Medium Tech Device.

Jesus I enjoyed the video on AT devices. I was especially impressed with the part of the video that focused on the female who pushed a large button with the side of her face when the appropriate choice on the computer screen was highlighted. This clip shows how inventive and creative individuals are when it comes to creating objects that can help those with exceptional needs become more self-sufficient and independent.

Great job Jesus! I like how you provided a description of what you then attached. The video showing the types of technology was also nice. Having a visual is always an added bonus. The definitions- I liked...I didn't think to include that on my wall!

Jesus, the information included on your wall is also what I feel I learned from the wall. The resources given are very beneficial to our understanding of the lesson as well. Teachers have to know the many laws and school requirements to better assist their students. Teachers must also be infomed of the different types of assistive technology that can be used in the classroom.The video of the types of assistive technology showcased the resources that are available.

I really liked how you placed that video on the different types of assistive technology devices. I thought that was very helpful because it helps us future special educators see what type of devices we can work wit. I also like that you provided a brief description on what assistive technology is. I also enjoyed the information that you gave us on about what high, medium, and low tech devices can be. Great job!

I like your wall- it is simple yet to the point. The types of AT video really impacted me. It amazes me how a piece of technology can change the way people communicate- better yet it allows people to communicate. I liked the article you included on the different kinds (low-high) devices that can be used in the classroom. I will definitely want to use these in my classroom.

Jesus, I liked that your wall was very simple and not overwhelming. However, you provided sufficient information that we learned in lesson 1. You focused on the main points from the lesson and were able to explain them.
