Importing areas (areas where the drugs are taken to) are reporting increased levels of violence and weapons-related crimes as a result of this trend.

Financially Motivated Sexual Extortion - info for parents/carers (CEOP Education)

The criminal practice of extorting individuals on the pain of releasing self-explicit material is commonly known as ‘sextortion’. The practice’s technical name ‘Financially Motivated Sexual Extortion’ or FMSE, is an increasingly prevalent form of child sexual abuse. What started as simple money exchanges, now include cryptocurrency seizures and pre-paid gift cards as forms of criminal redemption.

Males aged 14 to 17 are overwhelmingly represented in cases of this nature. Often they’ll be enticed by the promise of seeing sexually explicit images, before the rug is pulled and the scam put into operation. As a result the victims have been tricked or groomed over a period of time. With the rise of AI this practice is becoming more complex with false explicit images actually changing hands, in exchange for a real image of the target. CEOP is highly concerned with this practice and has authored a guide page on what to do. If interested, please follow the link below:

https://www.ceopeducation.co.uk/parents/articles/FMSE

Sexually coerced extortion or ‘sextortion' is a type of blackmail where someone tries to use intimate, naked or sexual photos or videos of you to make you do things you don't want to do. Sometimes, these photos or videos are taken without your knowledge, and the person blackmailing you uses them to force you to pay money or do something against your will.

Criminals often target people who use dating apps, social media platforms, webcam/live streaming sites or websites related to pornography. They might pretend to be someone else online and become friends with you. Later, they might threaten to share pictures or videos with your family and friends.

Remember, if you ever find yourself in a situation like this, it's important to know that the victims of 'sextortion' are never to blame. The criminals who try to extort money or make victims do things they don't want to do are the ones at fault.

This site has information about the following key topics:

What to do if you, your child or a friend are a victim of sextortion (with tailored information for 'I'm under 18', 'I'm an adult' and 'I'm a parent/carer')

What is sextortion?

The Education, Safeguarding, Health and Wellbeing (ESHAW) Hub are always looking for feedback about how the Team has supported schools and partners so far, and how we can continue to support schools and partners in the future.

We have created a variety of online Padlets to help colleagues from our schools and partners find relevant and reliable information and quality resources for a range of different topics and themes from our team's remits.

We would appreciate it if you could complete this short evaluation form, please, so that we can understand whether the Padlets have been helpful for you and so we can understand whether there is anything that we can do differently to further improve the Padlets in the future. It would be helpful to know which Padlets you've accessed, what you've used them for and if there's anything you feel is missing.

The form should only take a few minutes to complete but will provide valuable feedback to our Team and our managers.
Your feedback will be anonymous, unless you choose to enter your name/email address.

Thank you.
