Because of their advocation and strength, many people of color and women began to rise up and fight for the rights they deserve. As a civil rights activist,  Parks helped initiate the civil rights movement when she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a  bus. By advocating for equality, Parks showed the importance of standing up and fighting for your own beliefs, even if that meant being unwilling to tolerate to everyday acts of injustice that one may pass by. Personally, one person in my life that influenced me to be confident in who I am are my parents. Sandra Oh helped me feel more confident about being Asian in America. Before, I was insecure about my nationality and felt the need to blend in with the white community in my school. I tried to be less "Asian" because my elementary and middle school was heavily white populated. They made fun of my ethnic food so I asked my mom to pick sandwich for lunch and pretended like I was distant from my culture. However, after listening Sandra Oh's speeches and hearing about her accomplishments, I finally found the strength to embrace my ethnicity and culture. I stopped pretending like I was "white-washed" and began to act like my true self. I personally found difficulty being confident about my Asian heritage during elementary school because no one else was. I was even nervous to eat Asian food around any of my close friends because I was afraid of being different. All of that changed when a new teacher came to my school and changed how I saw being Asian.
