Its Place in History:

Central Asian Turkish Culture: It is the symbol of power, independence and the survival of independence. There are similar eagle figures in the Orhun Inscriptions.

Seljuk State: It was used in flags, stonework, and especially in architecture (doors). It symbolizes the state's dominance over both the east and the west.

Byzantine Empire: The double-headed eagle symbolizes worldly and otherworldly power, spiritual and worldly authority at the same time.

Ottomans: Although there is a usage limit, some storage units of the Anatolian Seljuks are allowed.

Today: It is still used in some state arms and institutional emblems (Albania, Serbia, Russia).

🔹 Ancient Origins

• The symbol dates back as far as Ancient Mesopotamia, including the Hittites and Sumerians.

• The two heads were often interpreted as watching over two realms or directions—past & future, heaven & earth, or east & west.

• It often stands for duality: life & death, light & dark, spiritual & physical worlds.

In mythic tradition, the eagle often symbolized Zeus (Greek) or Jupiter (Roman)—the king of the gods. The double-headed version amplifies this divine authority.
