Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson-Mr. Reindl

According to this document, King George III had violated the natural rights (life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness) of the American Colonists. The majority of the Declaration is a list of grievances that the colonists had against the British. The Patriots believed that they had tried for a redress of these grievances and the King had shown no willingness to do so, so Revolution was the only answer (abolish the existing government and replace it with one that would guarantee their rights).

The Declaration primarily lists political reasons, such as no representation in Parliament, and the denial of rights to American colonies, but also mentions the imposition of unfair taxes and cutting off trade with the rest of the world, so Jefferson gives both political and economic reasons as to why the colonists were declaring independence, but the primary emphasis is on political power and rights.

According to this document, the Revolution was justified, as it lists in great detail the actions taken by the British that violated colonial rights.

Jefferson's point of view definitely influenced the writing of this document, as he is a die-hard Patriot.

This document concerns the declaration of independence written by Richard Henry Lee and any colonist who had a wonder of what was going on would read this.

The person who wrote these documents is richard henry lee, he proposed a much more vague version of the declaration rather than thomas jefferson, 3 reasons compared to thomas jefferson’s 6

The purpose of these documents was to inform the colonists, explaining why they cut ties with britain in 3 ways.
Benjamin Franklin Testifies Against the Stamp Act, by the House of Commons - Kyle Logan, Belen Zamora

According to the document's transcript, Benjamin Franklin believed the Stamp Act and other acts like it would hurt Colonial belief and love for Britain, further separating the two sides. He says (in the transcript) that "there is not enough gold and silver to pay the Stamp Act for one year," as the Colonies already paid taxes, and this new one wouldn't help.

Franklin's argument lists economical reasons as to why the Stamp Act should be diminished. He states that the colonies already pay taxes to support the military and government, of which many colonial citizens could barely afford. Along with providing evidence that Parliament never reimbursed the colonies for their aid in the French-Indian war, when they had spent "500,000 pounds, and the reimbursements, in the whole, did not exceed 60,000 pounds."

Evidenced in the document, the revolution was justified, as the colonies were massively undercompensated for their aid to the British, and the Stamp Act simply added to that bankrupcy.

Benjamin Franklin's colonial view would have influenced the argument and made it biased.

Alissa Amaral, Makenzie Martins

According to document 15, King George III was "against human nature itself". This Trade Indictment regarded the economic issues which King George III created among the colonists, as the colonists were trying to abort the slave trade, he continues to support it.

The Abortive Slave Trade Indictment is a document stating the economic issues which the King has bestowed upon his people. Although he was a christian king he had decided that men were to be placed into and out of slavery, as well as he encourages them to be unfaithful towards each other, "he urges them to commit against the lives of another." This document was expressing the colonists feelings towards King George's intentions of chaos.

The Abortive Slave Trade Indictment was justified, because King George was a instigator, trying to cause issues amongst his own people as well as he continues to support the African Slave Trade.

The document was written from Jefferson's point of view. As he attempts to add to the original indictment. His point of view would have created conflict with the South (as they thrive due to slavery), so this addition was turned away.

Two Views of the British Empire (1767, 1775) - David Ruiz Bello, Lisbeth Salas

According to this document, with the two pictures that were included. Such as "Britannia: Her colonies" created in 1766, it illustrates that The American colonies wanted reconciliation from the British. Ben Franklin was actually the only who illustrated the picture, showing a female without legs or arms, that representing the colonies. Basically saying that they can all benefit from each other. However The British did not feel the same way. Later in the year 1775, another illustration came out, but it wasn't from the American's, but rather the British. In the image "The wise men of Gotham and the Goose" it has a lot more symbolism. It show's a goose getting his head chopped off, which is a representation of The colonies, while the people who are killing the goose, are represented as The British. Another symbol is the goose's egg. The egg is meant to symbolize the taxes, and how all the man just want the goose's eggs, which in turns shows how all the British wanted was taxes.

Based on this document, the reasons for the colonists declaring independence were mainly economical. Based on the picture “ The wise men of Gotham and the Goose”, it shows that Britain was always at their(America) throats. They were forcing them to pay taxes which were represented by eggs. However, in “Britannia: Her colonies”, showed Americas point of view and it showed that they wanted to reconcile because they would function economically better together.

The colonists were indeed justified for declaring independence because at first, American colonist tried to reconcile with Britain based on the picture by Benjamin Franklin. However, Britain’s point of view, they didn’t care for reconciliation and continued to impose them.

Franklin's point of view didn't really influence the illustration. Ben himself was part of the American colonies, but if he really did have hate towards them he would've drawn something different, but in the image, it's more of a an offer of peace, and note really hate.

John Dickinson was a well-educated, wealthy lawyer, Pennsylvania farmer in his thirties. The document discussed being against heavy taxation and laws that Great Britain implemented on them.

John Dickinson wanted independence because he thought laws such as the Townshend Acts and the Stamp Acts were unfair, and he ¨wanted to protect the colonists life, liberty and property.¨ 2. [The colonies independence was justified because the taxes that Great Britain imposed upon them only built Britain's revenue.] British also imported raw materials from the colonies, manufactured them. and sold them back to the colonists. 1.

Josiah Tucker believed that the colonies were not useful to the British anymore. He thought when the colonies and British separated that the colonies would still trade with Britain if the colonies found interest in trading. Also, if they separated it would save the British 300000 pounds by discharging the payment of military in the colonies. When separated the influence of British over colonies would be greater as the colonies would feel their own importance.

Josiah Tucker's plan to separate form the colonies is economic because he believes the British will still have trade relations with the colonies even after their separation. If the British separate from the colonies the British military will go back to Britain and protect their own country instead of protecting two countries. Not having to keep an army in the colonies would save the British from the cost of transportation to the colonies and production in the colonies.

This document was not justified since it did not happen yet, they could not be certain of the colonies trading with them and that it would save them money.

Josiah Tucker's point of view influences the document because he was a British clergyman-economist.

" Besides sir we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now to late to retire from the contest".
