As I 'should be'. I understand that my family is doing this for the benefit of me but sometimes I feel like I didn't receive the things that I should've. At first i thought they might just be avoiding other people, but they acted normal around non-asians and they purposefully avoided asians. Another time i faced discrimination was when I was at a ballet holiday program thing. There was this group of girls I had other classes with, and we were all friends, but one girl low-key despised me. it was all fine until the said group of girls suddenly decided to exclude me for no apparent reason. they always glared at me, would look at me while whispering to each other and would move away from me at lunch whenever i was near. they also gave me a nickname which was painfully obvious, but they thought it wasn't. One time, we were at lunch, and then i moved to go sit with them, and one girl stayed with me, but the other girls immediately moved away. when the "ringleader" of the group told the girl who was staying beside my to go sit with the other girls, the girl staying with me asked what i ever did to them, the girl who hated me the most (the "ringleader") just glared at her and told her to go sit with the other girls, which she did. after this holiday program had passed, and it was a new year, the girl who hated me the most befriended me. I felt that i was managed well enough to handle everything myself. Nonetheless, a member of the camp was trying to be 'protective' of the younger ones when I was perfectly fine on my own. He told me that my luggage was 'too heavy for my age' and that i was 'too small to carry it'. Although I proved to him that I could carry it, he wouldn't stop following me because he said "you might get hurt because you're so small and young". I was just playing swimming tag with my brother when three boys came up and asked to play. At first, I agreed but sensed that something was up. When I was hiding and my brother was in, the boys teased him and swam into the deeper water and saying "Hey little Asian boy, you can't swim and tag us, you'd drown." I know that my brother is extremely stubborn and thought that he might try and swim into the deeper water. I knew what was right and went to a lifeguard to tell what was happening. But before I got there, I saw the boys approach him once more. This time they circled him, sworn loudly, were verbally attacking him about Asians. I quickly notified a lifeguard and brought my brother out of the water. He was affected and I could tell how he felt and since then he always felt a little insecure around other people.
