Selfish and greediness can lead you to do unspeakable things without thinking.Kino was selfish to only think about the pearl and ended up putting his loved ones in danger. Without thinking straight he got attacked multiple times and still wanted to keep the pearl after his wife said no but he didn't care. He became so obsessed with the pearl and didn't know what would happen to the other people in his life and what would happen to himself. The reader learned from Kino story is that greed and obsession can lead to consequences. The selfishness you could end up hurting someone you love or even yourself. This lesson could apply to modern-day audiences, where people would try to chase for money and success etc. The story reminds us to be mindful and prioritize our loved ones.

The setting in "The Pearl" is they lived in a small coastal village house. The house was made out of brush and it was also in a small village. The house was near the ocean. Since they had a canoe they would be in the ocean sometimes for finding pearls or fishing because they lived near the ocean. Throughout the book there is a rich side of town and a poor side of town where they are half of the time. In the story it states " Outside the brush house in the tuna clump, a covey a little birds chittered and flurried with their wings." This shows what type of house their house was made out of.
