I think that someone felt that these versus where needed because I think that they where trying to show an idea of that we have a lot of different jobs but together we are stronger, I think they are also adding this to explain how they are trying to divide us and separate our power but together we are stronger than they thing.

In the song they repeat "solidarity forever" and "the union makes us strong." I believe it mainly does this because its trying to mainly show us that this is the main point/message of the song

All the verses contain references to labor, but the newer verses refer to work that align more modernized jobs. "We that wash the dishes, scrub the floors, and chase the dirt" is more relatable than plowing prairies and endless miles of railroads laid.

The second set of verses is much more elaborate, it even discusses how workers are divided by their sex, age, language, and etc.

“ Now we stand outcast and starving midst the wonders we have made; But the union makes us strong.” This quote seems like they are whitewashing themselves in a way. Making eachother think that it’s okay to be put aside after expressing all of the labor put into rebuilding/ cotnstructing cities because at the end of the day, when everything fails, they still have the union. Specifically, the word “But” highlights the overshadowing of what’s actually happening to the working class. You can see this in both the old and the new verses. However, in the newer verses I see the message as in more relation to what’s happening in society today. For instance, the boss flirting with you, blue collar jobs, etc. In comparison to the older verses, the new verses convey a tone that doesn’t overshadow the problems in society but points them out and more so highlights the strength in numbers a union makes. The new verses assert more dominance in wanting to make a change with the union.

All of the verses have the same overall messages. I see that it is very repetitive. They sense the inequality and lack of benefit for themselves. I see that the song senses strong feelings of solidarity and strength with more people standing together. '' It is we that wash the dishes, scrub the floors and chase the dirt, Feed the kids and send them off to school and then we go to work; Where we work for half wages for a boss that likes to flirt, But the union makes us strong.'' This here brought more insight into the day to day lifestyle that is similar to ones we see everyday and how people in the union are trying their best to stand together because the conditions are ones that are felt from ones at a whole.

I'd assume that someone heard the song and thought that it needed to be changed. My partner mentioned that the second paragraph talks about how they build the house and work when the rich just uses power and money to get their way. The new verses speak of modern times and the themes that are talked about now.

The original song mainly talks about how we are stronger together and unions are powerful, while the new song also focuses on how employers try to separate workers. The new versus say, "they say you need no union if your collar isn't blue; Well that is just another lie the boss is telling you," showing that employers have seen how powerful unions are and try to prevent them from rising.

I believe someone felt that the person writing the new verses felt as if there needed to be a more widespread set of jobs for the new generations that brought forth more opportunities. Not only they brought detail into why certain people are treated in certain ways such as, color, age, etc. However they all still share the same idea that, the people as a union's work still goes as unappreciated by the people who come from wealth who will most likely control it. Even with as much time has passed the overall theme has stayed in tact regarding the way people are treated regarding their characteristics.

Some ideas that were applied in the newer verse was including the different identities. "They divide us by our color, they divide us by our tongue, They divide us men and women, they divide us old and young"

They also added how people may have different jobs, how the boss would be nice to you, and how they make us that you don't need a union unless your blue collar.

Compared to the original the newer verses relate more to race, gender, and class. Also the original is key on the strength of the workers coming together, however the newer verses focuses on what separates the workers.

Although both the original and the new version have the same theme of unity, and how if workers are the ones creating the wealth, they should have some control over it. For example "But they’ll tremble at our voices when they hear these verses sung." and "But the union makes us strong" Differences the new version is a lot more specific and brings things like race and color to light. For example, "They divide us by our color, they divide us by our tongue, They divide us men and women, they divide us old and young." Additionally, The new version also has more specifics of how the bosses manipulate workers. (Ex: "Well that is just another lie the boss is telling you.")

The original song emphasizes strength in numbers, solidarity, and the power of unionization. The newer version is a more refreshing song that relates more to this newer generation of the typical "9-5" worker. Employers divide their workers and gaslight them into believing that unions aren't powerful, but the truth is workers' voices are vigorous, "for the union makes us strong."

I've noticed that both songs have a part that fires shots at cooperation or for the new song bosses to convey the idea that the higher-ups are the enemy. another thing that makes both songs similar is that the inspiration at the end that makes up both songs.
