Figurative Language: Period 7 by Brittany Rivera

Let's examine excerpts from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech to identify how the quote impacts your head, or thinking, and your heart, or emotions.

Respond to three questions for each quote:

1. How is this an example of the figurative language device listed?
2. How does this figurative language impact your head, or thinking?
3. How does this figurative language impact your heart, or emotions?

1. This quote shows Symbolism because he says, "sit down together at the table of brotherhood". This, table represents equality.
2. This impacts my thinking because this shows how much he cares for this cause, mentioning how he wants everybody to have the same rights, and to treat each other as brothers, not as masters or slaves.
3. This impacts my emotions because it shows how everybody could simply get along with each other if only they could all do what other could do. It makes me feel like the African Americans should get the same rights as everybody else.
