The prohibition era began when the 18th amendment banned the manufacture, transportation, and sale of intoxicating liquor. It was prohibited to protect any individual and families from the violence and problems that alcohol may cause. It was banned for a good reason but took a wrong turn. There was now speakeasies, bootleggers, and rum runners. Speakeasies were places where there was illegal drinking involved, bootleggers were the one that made, distributed and sold the liquor illegally and rum runners were the ones smuggling in the alcohol to America.

Advocates for prohibition included mostly women, Progressive reformers, industrialists and union organizers and anti-saloon league.
Women believe that the prohibition of alcohol can ruin their families as well as their homes and children because the men were becoming violent and/or spend a lot of money on alcohol instead of providing their family’s with money.
Progressive reformers were strongly against alcohol. They believed that it poorly affecting the working class and as lower class because of its dangerous affects of the ability of a person.
Industrialists and Union Organizers supported the prohibition of alcohol since it had been affecting their workers negatively, some worker would show up at work drunk or hungover not allowing them to work efficiently.
The anti- saloon league believed that they needed to make a nationwide prohibition of liquor because of the dangers it cause onto a person
