The answer to the section question, why engage parents in school, is clearly captured by the quote in the previous page: it improves student well-being and performance - two key goals we educators usually aspire to!
Effective parental engagement is the key to improve education because both sides have the child at the center of their action and concern. So the topic is very interesting for us as educators,

Engaging parents early in a students’ school career, significantly reduces the risk of a student dropping out of school.
ACTIVITY:

Consider the following scenario:

Max, a 12 year old boy in your class, has not been showing up to class around once per week and the frequency is increasing. When he is attending class he seems engaged and his work is of adequate standard but he does seem a little isolated from the rest of the group. However, due to missed lessons he is starting to fall behind and his last two test scores have been below his usual average but still at a passing level.

A similar situation already happened 4 months ago but a chat with Max and an email to his parents seemed to have addressed the problem at the time. Max mentioned that he got distracting playing computer games. The parents never replied to the email and also did not attend parents evening but as Max’s attendance improved again you didn’t follow-up.

You are super busy at the moment as you are organising the school play and will go on a school trip in 4 weeks time.
What would you do in this scenario?
First of all i will discuss it with Max then i will try to analyze classroom s climate, i will discuss about my concerns with my colleagues at school and school counselor.

Then i will try to have a meeting in a time and a day that Max parents and i are available to see what happens and talk about how we can improve the situation at home and at school.

Of course i will use "Marie s Gitschthaler and her colleagues doc"
https://www.schooleducationgateway.eu/files/esl/downloads/84_Checklist_and_Recommendations_EN.pdf

They have several effects in communication, both positive and negative. Pros: Accessibility (as these communication tools have made the connection easier), Mass Communication (electronic communication, especially emails, makes sharing information with the group of parents easy), Social Relief (chat rooms, online forums are technology tools that make interaction with teachers easier for parents who are socially awkward in person). Cons: Nonverbal Communication (communication technology does not allow in face to face communication, nonverbal communication, like facial expressions and body language, which reinforce the message), Digital Divide (not everybody has the same level of expertise with communication technology)
