Lin Piao used to absent himself from classes very often and one day the principal made up his mind to expel him. So he sent for the young man.

Lin arrived just as the principal was about to go for lunch.

“Is this the time to come?” said the principal, sternly.

“Forgive me, sir,” said Lin, “but I go to school very late today. Could you see, I found a lumo of gold in our field,”

“A lump of gold!!!,” the principal shouted, his eyes popping out.

“Oh…my God! What are you going to do with it?” He asked.

“I decided to buy a house, buy a few hectares of land and several live cattles,” said Lin Piao.

“I also plan to give some of the gold to kick out the trouble that you have taken while educating me before,”

The principal was pleased and invited Lin to have a bowl of rice with him. The young man ate ravenously but the smart old man hardly touched his food. He was wondering how much Lin would give him soon.

“I hope you’ve kept the gold in a safe place,” said the smart old principal.

“I never got a chance to do that,” said Lin. “It disappeared the moment my mom shook me awake,”

“What!” the smart old principal screamed. “You mean it was all a dream?”

The young man nodded.

The principal controlled himself with a great effort of will.

“I’m happy you remembered me in your dream,” he said, finally.

“I hope you remember me when you really get some gold. Now please leave.”

It was only when the young man had left that the principal remembered why he had sent for him.

When I was a kid, I had a terrible attitude which is lazy. So, I was just a lazy kid that always stays in home by doing nothing, even hang out with friends or mingle with, but within 24 hours, I just sit on the couch and watch my favourite channels. Now, I will tell you a story about a person that changed me.

It happened when I was seven. After school session, I went back home and take lunch together with my mom upon arrived. After finishing the food, I always left the dirty plate on the sink and won’t wash it. I go upstairs and leave my school shoes untidy, I throw my socks beside the stair and let it unwashed for a couple of weeks. Day by day, time by time, my laziness grows up till it triggers upset feeling among my bonds, my mom always scolding me for the same case – bad attitude.

After some times, my older brother saw mom always scolding for me and he realizes that he has to do something to rebuild me. One day, after I take my lunch, he asked me to wash my plate, when I go upstairs, he instructs me to put my school shoes neatly on the rack and wash my socks. After taking a bath, he said that I only allow to watch television after completing my homework. But, the new rule only estimated at 3 hours! At first, I did not notice that is his way to change me. I only knew to nod all the orders.

Several weeks later, my brother went to Sibu with his friends. As usually, after school, I did the house chores as before. I clean or tidy up all my stuffs by myself, not waiting for his words again and again. I did not feel weird because I did it naturally.

Coming back from Sibu, my brother showed a trophy to me. He actually participated in singing competition and luckily won the first price. New hobby begins, I ask him to teach me to sing, to adjust the low and high tone and so forth. Almost every day I spend my leisure time of him and I fulfilled my watching television time for singing practice.

One day, there was a singing competition in my school. So, I take part in the competition. I won the forth! My family especially my mom and brother felt proud of me because I brave to take part in the competition for the first time. The hobby continued till I was eleven years old. At that time, my brother went to work in Singapore. So, there was no one beside me as always, only my beloved mom.

My brother only went back here quite rarely due to works’ demand. Even though he stays far from us, I never left my talents behind. I always remember him as he made me know the right thing to do in life, as saying goes a good advice change a person, a good action can realize a person’s dream.

I CAN IF I COULD by Teo Ke Ke (5A)

Everybody said that the plan would never work. It was far too risky. So, they greeted Eason, who was going to work the plan with boos and hisses. Every gibe sent ripples through his body. However, his decision never changed until the day he finally reached the success.

The first ray of down broke the night as the sun chased the dark clouds away. The whole landscape was bathed in a sea of liquid gold. The warm sunshine was caressing Eason’s chubby cheeks while he was on his way to Padang Merdeka, nearby his house. Ignoring his parents’ instruction not to join the International 100km’s Marathon, Eason was whistling merrily and was walking with light footsteps to the destinations. The marathon will be flagged of at Padang Merdeka in that morning. Many neighbours were talking behind of him and were whispering to each other. They thought that Eason was just too confident and he must not be able to finish the marathon. However, Eason did not care about their words because he believed he could.

When he reached Padang Merdeka, his heart trumped extremely hard. There was a buzz of excitement in the air. All the participants were ready for the marathon. He knew his risky it was to be involved in such a big event. He may get injured or maybe would leave negative effect to his body parts because of running for a thousand stones, even kilometres. He kept on thinking about a myriad of things, until the run was started with a screeching noise of whistle. The journey began.

Eason was able to overcome the first 50 kilometres easily. He kept running and praying to God. Everything seemed to be proceeding well until the days get darker and darker. Things did not go as hoped. Out of nowhere, a deep, booming burst of thunder rumbled, followed by quickly by the bright, blue bolts piercing across the sky. The sky was illuminated and the clouds looked strange. Both bronze and black at the same time, both magnificent and fearsome. It was as of a bad omen, signifying something bad was going to happen. Eason fell on the ground because he did not notice the obstacles in front of him. Meanwhile, the heavy dark clouds opened their gates together and drenched him with a wall of cooling water.

It was difficult to stand up due to the injuries on his right knee. He was seeking for someone to help him. A voice lingered in his ears, “God help them who helped themselves”. His mind drifted to the moments when he fell down from the bicycle at the age of 5. His mother encouraged him with this saying so that he could stand up again by himself. This saying was exactly true. In life, everyone needs to paddle their own canoe and did not depend on the others. Hence, he stood up from the ground and continued his marathon. Even though his mother was not here again with him when he fell down, he was still brave to face the difficulties alone. Love was the motivation.

He ran through cities, went through gardens and continued towards the final destination. He was exhausted and paralyzed with fear at the last 20 km. He was dead beat and was at his wit’s ends. Negative emotion started to engulf him with a terrible intensity. He regretted the plan and decision that he had made 100 km was not an easy task. He slowed down his footsteps and carefully watching the surrounding rounds him. He noticed that the day was getting dark. It was almost 7pm. Then he realized that he had running non-stop for almost 7 hours. As the last glow of sunset disappeared at the end of the horizon, the moon became more eye-catching. Watching at the abnormally large moon, sparkling in the light, shining in the dark, keep going even the life is difficult.

Thus, he speeded up and caught up with the other participants. Dimly, he could hear the cheering of audience which was getting clearer. He knew the final point was very close to him. He paid in all his strength and effort at the end of the marathon. Finally, he reached the destination and laid unconsciously on the ground. He was worn out with fatigue. Eason was declared as the champion of the International 100KM’s Marathon.

As he received the price from Dato’ Tiong, Eason nearly fell over the elation. He stammered over his words and even forgot some. The organizer had informed his family and about his victory and they were over the moon. His plan was not far too risky because there is a saying which goes like this ‘he who believes he can, can’. Eason believed he could and he could.

IF I AM AN ACTOR by Helnysia Sebi Nyalong (5A)

A great actor plays an important role to make a successful movie or drama. The actor needs to understand very well about the character or role that they are given by the director. An actor should behave well and cooperate with the director and the others while on the set. This will make the process of making a movie or drama become easier. An actor ought to practice and memorized their scripts before shooting.

If I have the opportunity to be an actor, I would. I agree that being an actor is exciting. This is because an actor is well-known by many people all around the world especially when you are a good or popular actor. A famous actor often being asked to be in a movie or drama by popular directors. So, when you are famous, the chance of you to be jobless is low. In addition, you will have many throughout the world, so wherever you go, people will notice you and of course the paparazzi will follow you too. We have many popular actors such as The Rock, Van Diesel and so forth. Their famous movie is The Fast and The Furious. He also being the voice of Maui’s character in the Disney movie entitled Moana.

Next, being an actor is exciting because our job is to entertain people. Knowing people is happy because of us is a good feeling. Being able to cheer, thousands people up or make they laugh is not something that everyone could do. Also, we can send different messages to our viewers through the movie. For example, the movie Me Before You shows that we should live well and boldly because we only live for one time. I believe that actors could inspire people through their acting and movies. This is because there are many characters in a movie and each characters play different roles.

Moreover, being an actor is exciting because we can learn new skills and try different roles. For example if we are given a bad character, we must looks like a cruel to give a real impact to the movie. If we are given a warrior character, we should be tough and strong. I believe we can improve ourselves through acting. For instance, we will get used to memorize the script, so, whenever we are given a new drama or movie, it will not be a big deal. Another goodness of becoming an actor is we can travel everywhere because the scene of each drama is differ. Sometimes, we will go abroad for shooting of certain scenes. It is another big chance for the actor to travel and explore the world.

Subsequently, being an actor also can build our character which is we could learn how to control ourselves by being patient in redo the scene, if the director feel unsatisfied with our action. In addition, we can discipline ourselves. It can be seen when we have to be punctual by going early to the set. The most important thing is we settle down with the fans and media if there are some negative rumours coming out from unknown person. The haters will easily spread out the rumours about us. As an actor, we have to be professional in dealing with negative responses from the outsiders.

As a conclusion, I am sure that being an actor is exciting because there are many benefits and knowledge we can gain. Being an actor might be tough or challenging, but it is just a part of life. All we have to do is just enjoy and be ourselves.
