Due to the amount of lockdowns, people were generally forced apart regardless of their geographic distance, thus relationships were made to operate more like LDRs. This includes both the consequences of time apart and the benefits of increased maintenance behaviours. Some examples of technology that came out around the pandemic was the expansion of Zoom and other online communication platforms.

Maybe LDR more common if an individual wasn’t in a relationship before COVID, but if they were in a relationship before COVID there may have been more of a chance that they would move in together to quarantine with their partner. So I think it would depend on the timing of getting into a relationship during COVID that would be a deciding factor in whether or not it’s long distance or not.
