My annotations helped me gain a better understanding the tone and the emotions being portrayed in the story. Despite the story being written in 2nd person POV, in my opinion, "you" seemed to be a sort of proxy for the author to describe his own feelings. It was interesting to be able to read and gain a deeper understanding of the story of "you", a lonely and observative narrator who craves human connections.

2. "Buffalo Soldiers"
3. The purpose of an annotation is to be able to understand the story on a deeper level , which in turns revealed features of a story such as its use of conventionalities (or lack-there-of) and themes.
5. While annotating the story, I was able to connect the character's reactions along with the setting's details, it helped me pinpoint the context of its theme on a historic, and more so cultural level. In this case, the story was set in late 1800's Western America during a battle between a coloured reigement and Native Indians. The story's larger theme tackles the mistreatment of minority foot soldiers when in service of their country, which is conveyed through racism.
4.

“Accident” (p. 103)

The story is written from the point of view of the narrator which is responsible for causing a car accident. As he approaches the teenagers he has hit he is very nervous that they will be very upset with him but end up realizing they are very nice and build a connection with them. I have highlighted the following sentence because here is where the narrator realizes he has gained something positive from this terrible ordeal. The larger meaning of the story is that positive things can come out of bad situations. He caused the car accident and it could have ended in a tragedy but instead he gained new friendships and a moment of peace knowing that there are good people in the world.
