So what I've learned so far is that some slaves can be sold even when they can barely walk. I chose to write this because it chose how early a life of a slave can start.

I learned that we can become a slave and work in the plantation from a very young age. I chose to write this because it show that slavery can start in a very young age.

THE FIGHT TO ABOLISH SLAVERY I learned that slavery was very common in the U.S.A and caused many tentions between the South and the North of this country. It even caused a war between these two parts of the nation. During this time, Abraham Lincoln had promised that, if the North part of the war won slavery would be abolished. If not, slavery would continue.

In the document they say that slaves were allowed less than half a bushel of cornmeal per week for every four of us, and almost no meat and vegetables, save for some fatback. I chose to write about this to show on how little slaves eat per week.

the slaves sleep in a small wooden cabin with another family, an old hay mattress on the floor for a bed, with no privacy. I chose to write this because it chose the enviroment in wich they sleep in.

An other thing that I learned is that if a slave tries to escape from he's owner and some one saws him, he can be beaten very badly or they can even kill him. I chose to write this, because it shows us how people treats other human.

A typical day when you work on a plantation starts with a rise before sun up to be able to feed all the cattle before the real work started. When the first light struck, the slaves were already working in the field, not able to rest for a second without being wiped by the overseers. The work continued until it was to dark to be able to see what you were doing.

A new thing that I learned is that slaves were helped to runaway to the North by abolitionists. Abolitionists are people who are against slavery and they help them escape to the North by providing shelter. Most of the workers were black and few were white from the North. I chose to write about this because it show how people can be kind by helping slaves to have a normal life.

Some people helped slaves escape by taking great risks. It's the case for John Rankin and hid=s family who lived in Ohio. They would put a candle in their window as a signal of friendship and the fugitives crossing the river to the house could be guided by the light.
