I get really anxious before video calls during lectures. I'm always afraid that something bad will happen (ex. something embarrassing behind me, getting frozen with a strange expression on my face, not knowing what to say when called on, technical difficulties that slow down the class). I'm working on conquering this fear now, but until I do, I will leave my camera off during big classes unless I'm in a breakout room.

I don't like it when I can't make it to class. I like that it's hybrid so I can be flexible, but I don't like how left-out I feel being online. I don't want to interrupt by just speaking, but often times when I raise my virtual hand, no one notices for 5 minutes or more. I might email my professor to let them know. If that doesn't work, I'll unmute myself more often so I can still participate.

It's hard for me to stand up for myself, but I did it. One classmate (who will remain anonymous) talks way way WAY too much. He interrupts everyone, goes on for ages, and doesn't know when to stop. He gets us off track all the time and we end up having to scramble to finish work. We tried being kind, but he can't take a hint. Last class, I'd had enough. I used the "Mute Participant" button so we could continue the discussion without him and I felt great. Truly a power move. He doesn't listen anyway so we were able to get 3 full minutes of work in before he noticed. "Oh, were you muted that whole time?" I asked innocently. "Sorry, we were focused on this task so we didn't notice!" Hehehehehe!

The "Mute Participant" button shouldn't exist. Who are you to think you can mute me?? If it's too loud in the background, just tell me and I'll mute myself. I have things to contribute and I will not be silenced. Next time I catch one of you doing that to me, there will be consequences. Severe consequences.

I was very stressed before starting my current set of hybrid courses, but I had nothing to worry about. They are all lovely. Whether I'm in person or online, I always feel included and I'm able to learn. My team mates are awesome and the friends I've made might be for life. Why was I so worried to begin with? I'm going to remember this semester next time I'm feeling anxious while registering for classes.

I had a blast in my last hybrid course. The teacher made us all feel heard no matter where we were in the world and the convos in the breakout rooms were a hoot. When I was able to come to class, I came, because the vibes were great, but when I couldn't make it, I didn't feel like I was missing out that much because the community our teacher created was so strong. I will keep taking courses with this professor because she is incredible at making everyone feel included and have a great time.

I'm 99% sure our professor offers our economics course in hybrid mode so he can sit at home and have his teaching assistant do all the actual work. She does everything and gets no support while he does nothing and just philosophizes about "shareholder value." What is more frustrating is that I don't feel like I can express these feelings to this professor until the course is over. When the time for course evaluations comes around, he will feel my wrath.
