Throughout chapter one, Harker keeps seeing people do the sign of the cross when he mentions where he's going. The gesture is a sign some religious people to help them ward of evil. Although he sees many people do it in front of him, he finds it odd but ultimately pays it no mind.

Bistritz is a place in Romania which Count Dracula himself named. It used to be a German settlement, and the tower there in the picture is actually the tallest building in all of Romania. As mentioned in the novel, there were a series of fires that destroyed a lot of the old town, during 1836-1850. The Golden Krone in the novel was a fictional hotel, however in 1974, an actual hotel was established. At the hotel's restaurant you can get food-items like Elixir Dracula and Robber Steak (the meal Jonathan eats at the hotel in the story). Pretty neat.

This is a caleche and it was commonly driven in 1897. A simple definition of caleche can be defined as a light, low-wheeled carriage. This can be found in chapter 1 when a tall vampire with a long beard rides up with 4 black horses to pick up the Herr who is going to meet up with the Count. Judging by the reactions of the peasants it seemed that this carriage had a strange appearance to it. I couldn't tell if this carriage in the story had a roof or not; to me it seemed to not have a roof over the head of it considering the way the Herr hopped onto it. It was big enough to hold luggage and store slivovitz (plum brandy) underneath the seat, and was very fast because of the 4 horses pulling it. This caleche seemed to have an eerie gloom around it that even frightened the other coach drivers.

Do you think if he had company that maybe he would be too distracted to consume blood?

Count Dracula starts getting introduced in the second chapter of the story. As Jonathan starts describe the count he tells us how he doesn’t see any color in his skin tone and it makes him look like he’s not alive. And also describes how hills nails are very sharp. This photo draws a reference to how Jonathan was describing the count in chapter two.

I am choosing this image because I’m chapter 2 Dracula is described as “ tall old man, clean shaven, save for a long white mustache and clad in black from head to foot, without a single speck of color about him anywhere,” which still shocks me because I would rather see the monster for what he is then a closer resemblance to ordinary. His description seems a bit average which turns me away from his character and leaves me wanting to know more in detail of what monstrous qualities will
be represented. I want to feel more of a sense of fear, which sounds odd but it would in my opinion allow you to accept the monster and truly be able to analyze his true character as he is written about in this book.
