He asks students to use their cell phone cameras to identify objects, people, places or things that look like the letters of their first names. 

Either students can group them together into one photo and upload as a whole, or they can submit the individual photos and he will synthesize them into one photo file that spells their names. He provides video tutorials to help guide the process and he also includes examples from prior students. 

Once they complete this assignment, they then share the photo of their names in a discussion and explain their process, what and how they chose to represent the letters and why.
