Chapter 10 "The process"

Williams father plans to sell tobacco to pay for His schooling but doesn't have enough after paying his debts. William then spends his free time looking for scrap for his windmill. Some kids see him doing this and call him crazy and that he's wasting his time. "Hey look its William digging in the garbage again" (pg 178)

Chapter 11 "The assembly"

William finally starts to assemble the windmill. The span of the blades was nearly 8ft. To test if the dynamo could produce enough power he hooked up his father's radio. When the windmill spun it generated so much power that the radio started smoking. As the boys were lifting the windmill onto its stand a crowd gathered mocking him. "let's see how crazy this boy really is"(pg 198). But he was determined to prove them wrong he started the windmill and against all odds, it worked it powered a light bulb right in front of everyone they were in disbelief.

Chapter 12 "A Brighter future"

William and his family are getting used to life with electricity. William has run cords all through out the house walls. During a storm a part of his room had fell giving him a revelation that their house could catch on fire because of the wires. since he does not have access to fuses he cant install a circuit breaker. So he spends his time studying how to make fuses and builds a makeshift circuit breaker. Williams dad enjoys the electricity even more “because my own son made it.”(215)

Chapter 13 "Ambition unbound"

William continued to create more things with Gilbert and Geoffrey He made a radio transmitter although its range was very short. He also made a water pump to pump water out of the well. But the materials he made it out of made it hard to operate. Shortly after his mother falls ill with malaria and is hospitalized. Not long after that Gilbert's father Chief Wimbe dies. "I flipped through my books looking for that next big idea"(pg 227)

Chapter 14 "Unlimited opportunities"

Some officials from the Malawi Teacher Training Activity (MTTA) show some interest in William's windmill. Dr. Mchazime the head of MTTA drives 5 hours to Wimbe to meet William. He then realizes that William should be in school and have access to more resources. Dr. Mchazime takes William's story to the internet and he pressures the education system and raises money for his schooling and he sets William up to perform a TED talk. William then travels to Madisi to begin his schooling. "work hard my father said I want you to know that we are very proud"(pg 252).

Chapter 15 "A better Life"

William travels to the TED conference in Arusha, Tanzania he is nervous. Tom Reilly introduces himself to William he is in charge of the corporate sponsors of the TED talks. Tom then asks William if he would like to go talk on stage. He accepts his offer but is very nervous talking in front of so many scientists. The crowd loved his TED talk and applauded him. William then returns to Wimbe and when he does workers begin to lay proper cable and install light fixtures in his home. William now attends the African Bible College Christian Academy in Lilongwe. Eventually, a borehole is drilled for a deep well, supplying William’s family with clean drinking water. It is the only automatic water system for miles around, and every day, dozens of women come to fill buckets with clean, free drinking water." After all the years of trouble the famine, and fear for my family dropping out of school Khambas death and the teasing I received trying to develop my idea I was finally being recognized"(pg 267)
