I've chosen him because from what I have read, he's gone through a bundle of things. Since he is a veteran, or was in the military, it touches my heart to see that hat, because both my parents serve the military. From what I've heard, and read, there was a conflict in Syria in 2017. Since he's a veteran, you would think he would know about these things, and he probably did. To think he risked his life to uncover the truth in Syria and give information to people around the world. He is one of the few people around the world who has their eyes wide open and realizes things about the world that may or may not be complicated. What's important about him is the fact that in the first two months of him being a news-reporter, he has accomplished wonders and died honorably. I mean, from my point of view, you would have to find an informational or exciting event, then go there, then film it and make tweaks to it. My point is, it seems like a lot of training and preparing to film a big event such as the one he has filmed. When I say he died honorably, I meant the fact that he died giving information to people during a conflict. I'd say it takes more than just bravery to do that. That, my friends, is why I chose Dilshan Ibash.

MAHARRAM DURRANI was a 28 year old reporter in training that was covering the Afghani suicide bombers that attacked Kabul Afghanistan. Another Islamic suicide bomber followed, this time targeting media workers. Maharram Durrani was among the 9 journalists who died. I chose to write about Maharram Durrani because number one she was so young. For a person to die at such a young age is terrible. And for it to happen while she's reporting a news story. Just intensifies the amount of gratitude we should have to every fallen journalists; that has fallen while reporting.

NANCY PARKER

^{I chose Nancy Parker because she helped people by reporting for 23 years on hurricanes. Including Hurricane Katrina.Then on a nice sunny day on August 16, 2019 she went in a stunt plane and a few minutes later unfortunately she died. She was 53 and left with a five Emmy Awards for her in-depth documentaries and feature stories.

I personally think its remarkable how she helped keep people safe during the hurricanes.}

I personally think that Hindia is one of the bravest journalist on the list. She took her husband's place after he died in a suicide bombing when she was in a country that was dangerous to journalists. I chose Ida B. Wells Because she uncovered the truth and promoted equality amongst others. Ida was born into slavery, during the civil war. after it ended, she began writing about the problems with racism and gender inequality. after that, she began writing weekly for " The Living Way". Eventually after she teamed up with Fredrick Douglass and they both promoted equality and justice. Ida is an important gesture in our lives and has showed that no matter where you grow up you can still make a living out of your life.

SAAD AHMAD: I chose to write about Saad Ahmad because of his unjust death and the outrage that followed. Saad Ahmad was a Syrian Kurdish Journalist who worked for Hawar News Agency. He was traveling to a northern area in Syria to report about Turkey's military when he was killed. He was in the middle of traveling when a Turkish Air strike killed him and many others. His death caused outrage and many people begged for the killing of innocent journalists to be stopped at once.

I choose Marie Colvin because what I have read, is that she is a brave journalist. She was a American journalist who reported for The Sunday Times of London, she lost her left eye during the Sri Lanka's civil war. She had covered conflict in a lot of countries while losing her eye. They accepted her in the Courage in Journalism award from the International Woman's Media Foundation in 2000. She said, "What's important is trying to bear witness. The pain of war is beyond telling." She was killed while the Syrian armed forces shelled the unofficial press center in Homs. She was a brave journalists who covered conflict in many countries.

was a 31 year old brave reporter that was shotm while visiting his sick nephew. AHMED HUSSEIN-SUALE DIVELA is very important because he reported on pastors preying on disabled children. When this happens, especially to a child they can't speak up out of fear, threats or their disability. It happens a lot more often than you think and the fact that he spoke up when they couldn't is really important. Nobody would think that a pastor would do such a thing which made it 10x more difficult for a child to tell somebody about it. Even after a member of the country’s parliament told viewers to beat him he continued his work. Unfourtantley he was shot three times while visiting his ill nephew. AHMED HUSSEIN-SUALE DIVELA died a hero and will continue to be one.

The group was traveling in a convoy when they were hit by a turkish airstrike. The blast killed both men and 13 others. Ahmad was a reporter for the local Hawar News Agency. He died trying to follow a story and that's why he is a hero

Since Moïse had taken office in 2017, inflation had risen, and the country had started to run out of resources. By taking this stand against Moïse, he was risking his life to inform the masses. I chose to highlight him as he is remarkably brave for standing out against his own government, and informing others of the harm Moïse is doing to their country.

Miroslava was a mexican journalist who worked for LA Jordna and more. Her goal was to help people with her work. She reported on human rights, government corruption, politics and drug trafficking. She was a well known journalist in the state of Chihuahua, where she lived. In her lifetime, she was adored by many people and after her death, Chihuahua's news agency, 'Norte' announced it was closing. The morning of her murder, she had been shot and murdered by whom is suspected to have been a gang member. Alongside the scene, a note was found that read "For being a snitch...". Many were shocked and saddened, but prior to this, Miroslava had received threats. I chose Miroslava because she was an important storyteller, who's only goal was for her work to be able to reahc out to people in need and help them.

Shah Marai was an Afghan photographer for the Agence France-Presse (AFP) who would place his camera lens on the human suffering that was scene every day in Kabul. On April 30th, 2018 a suicide bomber drove into a neighborhood that had the Afghan Intelligence Service, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization headquarters, and embassies. Afterward, Shah Marai and others including 8 other journalists ran over to take photos and document the incident when a second Suicide bomber ran into the crowd and detonated killing 25 people. The second suicide bomber was targeting media workers at the first incident. Shah Marai at the time of the attack was a father of six and the money he earned through his work was used to support family members including his 2 blind kids and 3 blind brothers who were blind due to genetically more likely to have blindness. The reason why I chose to highlight Shah Marai was that I believe that he put a lot of effort into his work and that he is remarkable due to the content of his photos and his and many other journalists who would rush into the zone of a bombing without body armor or really any kind of protection. Another reason would be that he was supporting his entire family and that he also covered the life of being on the Taliban while they threatened to beat and kill him when they came to power.

I choose her because she became a journalist to help those who’s voices could not be heard. I chose to write about Lyra McKee because she was an innocent reporter of nonviolence. She was named “one of Europe’s most prominent journalists under age 30” in 2016. She wrote for The Atlantic and Buzzfeed, and was an editor for Mediagazer, an online tech site. McKee was killed at 29 by “a masked man [who] darted out of an alley and fired a pistol.” A terrorist group took responsibility for killing her by saying that they were trying to attack the enemy.

Born in Evanston, Illinois, U.S, on October 18, 1973.

James Foley a seasoned war photographer was posting pictures of the situation in Syria, the Syrian war, and like any reporter he was exposing it to the people by posting the pictures online.
On Nov. 22, 2012, the hero was headed towards turkey when armed men forced him into a van on gunpoint, he was then taken to a hostage location where he was held for 40+ days with other fellow captives. Even when he was held captive he was still kind and helpful, still acting like a hero. He shared his blanket and food with others, and even tried keeping hopes up by making games to play with the other captives. But, unfortunately, on Aug. 19, 2014, Foley was beheaded by ISIS militants. James Foley, a hero and a helper, died trying to show the people what was happening to Syrian people affected by this war. If this is not enough to prove why he was remarkable and how. It is because while he was helping people by his own will, he did not stop even in overwhelming times… he was even still helping people when he was part of the helpless. He was still being kind and helpful in a time where there was bitterness and helplessness.

JAMAL KHASHOGGI

Jamal Khashoggi was killed and tortured in Turkey because he published his viewpoints, which did not align with the governments. In the first column he had ever published in the Washington Post, he stated that Saudi Arabia is repressive and unbearable. In his post, he blames Prince Salam for the arrest of 30 citizens whose views may not align with his. Khashoggi had to collect divorce papers in Turkey, where he was reported dead a few days later. Khashoggi was brave, he left his family, his job, everything he knew, so he could have a voice.

I chose to write about this topic because of the trials and tribulations that Jamal Khashoggi had to go through. He persevered and made an escape where he exiled himself to America, so he could have a voice. Against the oppressors.

I chose to highlight Lyra McKee because I think that her story can help a person understand the risks that some investigative journalists will take to get the news of recent events out to the public.
I think that it was brave of her to put herself in harm’s way just to bring recent happenings into public knowledge and the fact that she was killed while taking those risks shows her bravery.

Finally, her death helps to convey a serious message about how terrorists and criminals are a very real threat to these types of investigative journalists along with the general public.

I chose Jamal Khashoggi because he fled from Saudi Arabia claiming the crown prince Bin Salman “Unbearable”. He said this in his first column for the Washington post. He was in Istanbul obtaining divorce papers so he could remarry. Khashoggi, 59, was never seen again days later. Then the government o turkey reported that he had been tortured, murdered and his body cut to pieces with a bone saw in the consulate. This death set of worldwide outrage. A Saudi government insider saw that Khashoggi had criticized Saudi and the prince Salman in his columns for The Washington Post. The chief editor at the Saudi newspaper company said that the price had nothing to do with his death, but the CIA concluded that prince Bin Salman ordered the execution. Khashoggi was killed or stating the truth, and this is very unfair.

She was killed during a plane accident. This all took place on August 16th, 2021. She was an award winning journalist and an eight-time Emmy nominee. She was a very smart woman who spent over 30 years doing the news. She was a friend, mother, wife and so much more to so many people.

Something very important about Nancy Parker, is how greatly devoted she was to telling issues and problems around the world. She did this for over 30 years, nonstop. She kept going. She knew so many people, and kept contact. The amount of devotion she gave into her job, is excellent.

I have chosen to highlight this storyteller because she was very remarkable and I believe is a huge inspiration to many young journalists. She was remarkable because according to the Newseum Journalist Memorial, she had covered conflict in many countries, and even lost her left eye in Sri Lanka’s Civil War! This is very remarkable because she loved reporting so much that she sacrificed her eye for it! She even won the Courage Journalism Award from the International Women’s Media Foundation in the year 2000. She was a reporter for The Sunday Times in London and was killed when Syrian soldiers shelled an unofficial press center, also killing a French photographer named Remi Ochlik.

I had not found anyone familiar, and I was not about to go through nearly a hundred pages, so I chose one at random, and although it was random, it does still seem quite interesting. Carley McCord was a reporter, and on her way with 5 others on an airplane, died in a crash. The Louisiana State University Tigers, the team she was going to see play, evidently won, giving her father-in-law the game ball. She died at the age of 30, ju-just a fun little side comment there. Altogether, this person was someone I chose randomly, but was still an interesting story to hear about all the same. This had to be my absolute shortest writing piece I have ever done, but it was a short assignment. I am used to writing longer essays, but this I suppose is an exception.

(Also, it feels weird putting her name in all caps because a letter in the middle of her name is meant to be capitol.)

I chose to right about Ahmed because he was a brave and courageous journalist. He has been through so much including being attacked by villagers, getting a dangerous case, and death threats. His work inspired me, and hopefully it inspires you just the same. He was well-known for reporting on drug dealers, pastors preying on disabled children, and vile judges. He was only 31 years old when he was shot three times while on his way to visit his ill nephew in the year of 2019. A dishonorable member of the country’s parliament stated, "Hussein-Suale should be hanged and appeared on television with a photo of the well known reporter, urging viewers to “beat him.” Yet, only six months later he had sadly past due to an unruly individual. Ahmed Hussein has done some amazing work such as, pursuing a story on ritual murders in Malawi and Ghanaian soccer referees. The head of Tiger Eye Anas Aremeyaw Anas, vowed to continue his work. Anas said, “Come what may, we will never stop.”, (the organization he was working for at the time) had vowed to continue his work. As you can see, Ahmed was loved by many and we will never forget him.

She was American and went to New Orleans to report breaking news on the Saints. Then a few hours later, the small plane she was on crashed while going to the Peach Bowl in Georgia. I picked Alison Parker because I wanted to report on a female journalist. I picked her story because it was a very interesting story. Like basically 90% of the journalists I read about, she was shot to death. She was interviewing local chamber of commerce official, when she was shot, along with her cameraman, Adam Ward. They were filming live on TV when they were shot. She was a reporter from WDBJ-TV, and it turns out that the person who shot her was a disgruntled ex-WDBJ-TV journalist. Parker was killed on August 26, 2015 in Roanoke, Virginia. She was 24 years old when she was killed.

I have chosen to highlight John McNamara since his story is a real sob story and also since he was on the beat for 24 years at the Capital Gazette. John was killed in 2018 at the Capital Gazette during a break-in along with 3 other people. He was on point for 24 years with work until he died. It was even worse than that since the accused gunman had a grudge on this newspaper since 2011 and wanted vengeance since they released an article with harass charges on him. That is why I highlight John McNamara; a sob story and a guy that had been amazing at his job had died.

Néhémie Joseph was a reporter who covered the daily protests against Haitian President Jovenel Moïse. I picked Néhémie Joseph because he continued to stand up to the government even though he knew his life was threatened. He courageously informed other Haitians about President Jovenel Moïse and all the problems he was causing while being in office. Sadly, Néhémie Joseph was found dead in his car, but he will be remembered as a brave and important reporter.

IDA B. WELLS was an investigative journalist, researching lynching, and uncovering the injustice surrounding how people were sentenced to be lynched. I chose her because her hard work and intelligence caused her to be able to write for a weekly African-American newspaper called The Living Way and eventually was given a chance to write for the Evening Star. She also began writing about the racism and sexism that she noticed in the world around her. She found that African-Americans were lynched for crimes such as not paying debt or standing up to whites. She worked with African-American leaders such as Frederick Douglass and traveled to other countries to promote equality and justice.

Carley McCord was a sports news reporter, I chose Carley because she proved that you don’t have to be a boy to report sports news, she reported for Cox sports television and ESPN3, the Collage that Carley went to even made a scholarship in her name, because she aspired women to be sports news reporters!! I also believe that you don’t have to be a boy to be interested in other sports that girls may not like, and I love that she taught people that it is ok to be different. And Carley risked her life every day to do what she wanted to do, I am thankful that she was so brave and inspired women to be a sports reporter, and that it is ok. Carley died when she was only 30 years old, and it just proves that you don’t have to be very old to make the world a better place.

I chose Maharram Durrani because her death was only three years ago. She was killed by a suicide bomber that specifically was targeting reporters after a first suicide bomber caused an explosion or ruckus. The bomber that killed Maharram killed 24 other people, 8 of them being fellow reporters. It is sickening that a such a tragedy would be aimed at people who simply wanted to report news to the masses and help spread information.

The journalist I’ve chosen to write about is GAURI LANKESH PATRIKE, who was an editor and activist. Gauri Lankesh had a home and a life in India and had the role of being an activist. When Lyra was going to a riot in Derry, Northern Ireland covering a story about a police raid of weapons being stashed and held by people who were against the British control of Northern Ireland. Led to a man coming out of an alleyway and killing her he was a part of a terrorist's group and said he did it during the attack of the enemy. I do not know if the killing of Lyra was on purpose, but she must of know she could have gotten killed for standing up for nonviolence, but she did not stop she was brave through it all and I admire that about her.

But what really shocked me was how during her 23 years she was at the devastating disaster hurricane Katrina. Sadly she died in a plane crash in 2019 Aug 16. She was flying a stunt plane with Augustus when they were landing the plane started to fail and they crashed. Teresa Bautista Merino was killed in Oaxaca, Mexico, at only 24 years old. She died at such a young age from being shot to death. Bautista was a reporter working for the radio station named “The Voice That Breaks the Silence.” She was remarkable in so many ways! The radio station had been receiving death threats just like others who served the indigenous community. Meaning she stayed even though it was dangerous. There are many more, but this was just one. Moving on, I’ve chosen her for two reasons. The first reason being, journalism is more male-dominated, and sure there are several more women, but I chose her. In addition, reason number two is how our world is facing numerous issues, and she stood up for what she believed. She aided the indigenous community on a talk show. Bautista was quite the journalist!

NORMA SARABIA GARDUZA
I chose her because, her story is so interesting and it really caught my attention. She was “threatened after she reported that police officers in the Mexican state of Tabasco were involved in a kidnapping,” in 2014. She continued reporting though, in June 2019 she was killed by two men on motorcycles. Her story really caught my eye because she continued reporting even after being threatened. It really shows how brave she was and that she cared about others enough to keep on reporting and get others stories out to keep others safe even though she wasn’t safe herself, she knew what she was doing was right. You could tell she was dedicated to her job and died telling the truth. She was only 46 years old.

She died at the young age of 29 when she was in the crash of a small plane off the North Shore of Oahu while she was covering a tsunami. On March 30, 2009 when Park was honored at the Journalists Memorial in Washington, D.C., her name etched into a two-story glass wall alongside 1,842 other reporters, photographers and broadcasters killed in the line of duty.

I chose to highlight this reporter Ahmed Hussein Suale Divela because of the fantastic and remarkable things he's accomplished in his career. He tackled serious issues in his country of Ghana, issues such as Rampant corruption, predatory pastors that preyed on disabled children, traffic of drug dealing, and more. He has made several reports and stories on these issues and more, and even got attacked in the process. These were clearly very dangerous and risky assignments, but he still went on to take the risk and report them for the world. That is what is so inspirational about this reporter. He knew the risks that came along with it, but took it anyways for the sake of reporting and journalism. His reporting career would come to a tragic stop after one report of his on corrupt Ghanian Soccer Referees aired as a documentary in 2018, that exposed government officials who were linked to it, and exposed the referees for rampant corruption would cost him his life. In 2019, while making the trip to visiting a sick nephew, he was shot 3 times and killed. His legacy lived on and inspires many today.

Ahmed was a great example of perseverance and bravery because although so many wanted him dead, he continued doing what he loved, and so many loved his work, that the head of the Tiger Eye vowed to continue his work.

MOHAMMED HUSSEIN RASHO was a journalist traveling to northern Syria to report on Turkey’s military offensive into the region. Sadly, a Turkish air strike hit the convoy of journalists, killing both men and 13 other civilians, and injuring dozens more. Rasho had been a reporter and cameraman for about two months for Cira TV, a broadcaster supportive of a group that opposes Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. I was scrolling through the website trying to choose “the right person” to talk about. My eyes stopped on Mohammed Hussein Rasho because of how young he looked. We might never know the truth about his experiences, but there is one thing that is clear: One must be very courageous to go to a warzone to do his job.
