         <description><![CDATA[<div>My first graders began to enjoy spelling tests because they thought it was a game. I gave each group a fun name with a magnet to match: Lions, Giraffes and Elephants. All my kids had to put their heads down until I called their group name, then they listened and wrote their spelling word and put their head down again, while I called on the next group.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I put tests of chapters already completed during the year in sleeves. Intermittently reviewing concept that students have covered through out the year, help students commit these to long term memory. Students practice these review tests using white board markers and then they can check the answers hidden in the little blue envelop on each page. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Ask -try button<br>One of kids struggles with emotional issues, especially while doing assignments in class. He would spend hours crying because he panicked about the tasks. We talked about option has instead of panicking. I attached this pop-it to his desk with the options ASK, for ask the teacher for help, and TRY, try his best even if he gets it wrong. As soon as I see him get nervous about his work, I point to the pop-it and praise his choice. He loves using it and it has calmed him down in class.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Market Day</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Market Day is a great way to develop a sense of economy with the little kids. I've used a token system as a classroom behaviour system or just as a part of a math money unit. The kids learn the value of money, they learn to save towards buying something they like, keep their money safe. Some of my second graders have started to keep ledgers so that they can track their finances.&nbsp;<br>One of my favourite market days was when I had a lunch market. I set different prices for everything. My kids had to go "shopping" and buy all the "ingredients" they wanted to put in their sandwiches.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Cooking/Baking with Kids</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I love cooking with kids. It's great way to reinforce expected behaviour.  It also helps kids to listen and follow directions. Depending on the group I'm working with, I connect cooking/baking to my reading or writing lessons. They usually have a reading task to do before connected to what we are making and then have to write about the process after or during the wait. Cooking helps kids follow direction, either written or oral and their excitement is worth the effort.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Routine Reminder Checklist</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I set goals with my students and we figure out what needs to improve. One of the kids, struggles with class routines. We are working on it one at a time. We came up with all that he needs to get done.  We broke up the parts that he tends to forget into smaller tasks. I put it into a zip lock bag and tapped it on to his table. At the end of the day, he reads it, does it, and checks it off. His aim is to do it with zero reminders from me. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Collaborative Writing</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My second graders having been working on their collaborative chapter book. We read the story of Madeline, which is in a short poetic form. My students were given different parts of the original story, such as "they smiled at the good and frowned at the bad." They needed to rebuild a story around the part given to them. They could add details, minor characters, dialogues, descriptions to make their chapter interesting. I'm excited for our second grade chapter book.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Word Clouds on Mentimeter</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Mentimeter is our new favourite way of answering question. The kids love that their answers turn into word clouds. It gets them attentive, looking for the correct spelling in the text and using their typing skills while they respond to the given question. </div>]]></description>
