Which of the eight skills do you think would be the hardest for a leader to become really, really good at? Why? Use ideas from the article to explain your choice.

Pick two of the eight skills and explain how a leader could keep getting better at them in real life.

The article talks about what "Leadership" really means, beyond just being in charge. How do leaders build trust? How do they give clear directions? And why is it important to let others take on tasks? by Sydney Hoffman

I think out of the eight skills, the hardest for one to get extremely well versed in would be adaptability, as it requires fast reaction time, the ability to recognize the needs of yourself and others, and an accurate understanding of what exactly you are dealing with. Last second changes may shift an entire project's course of action, but having adequate adaptability would allow for an even flow even through that interruption.

Personal mastery is something that people build up on throughout their entire life, so it can be used thoroughly with improvement still visible. Another skill that one could keep building even if it is well established is communication, as there will always be moments where communication may be difficult, whether through a language barrier, an unresponsive teammate, or personal struggles.

I think the leadership skill is the hardest for a leader to be good at. The description is ¨Successful leaders instill trust, provide direction, and delegate responsibility.¨ A very common problem for new leaders is being too passive. It feels wrong for some people because they believe they're being too harsh or dictator-like. However, some people are too controlling and do not allow people room to grow. It's always important to have a good mix of passiveness while also being assertive as a leader. You need to know what the goal is, how to split the work in a fair way, and how you want to provide direction for your team.

Which of the eight skills do you think would be the hardest for a leader to become really, really good at? Why?

I think that adaptability and production are the hardest for leaders to succeed at the most. When it comes to adaptability, connecting to everyone on your team as a leader can be hard. It is arguable that building relationships and adaptability go hand in hand, as being able to adapt well means being able to work well with different types of people. Secondly, being able to be productive by yourself is sometimes difficult, but managing others gives it another level of difficulty. Making sure that you are considerate of others while still maintaining a great level of production is very difficult, and it's hard to become good at doing that. Overall, I think that adaptability and production are most important to being a good leader.

You can become a leader and trustworthy by being credible in your actions as well as your words. Being able to give clear directions means, giving specific instructions easy to understand and complete. It is important to get others take on tasks to help build relationships, credibility, as well as help them learn and become leaders. Being a good leader is more than just giving tasks and telling other to do them, but participation in activities as well as, communicating with other to build connections. The more you connect with your group, the better they will see you and help build your credibility as a leader.

The hardest skill for a leader to become great at would be personal mastery. As the real world has proven, it is extremely difficult for people to admit mistakes and learn from them. Sometimes people don't even realize the issue they are creating or the flaws in their character. This would be a quality that takes time, patience, and determination to master.

Communication and leadership are qualities that leaders can improve on over time. As leaders gain experience, they tend to learn the effective ways to communicate and delegate responsibilities. They can practice this through clubs, outside of school activities, and even at home through siblings. These two skills improve over time.

A leader can always become better with their own personal mastery, as we are all constantly growing and changing, requiring us to figure out how to navigate ourselves in an ever changing labyrinth of self. Knowing oneself is a significant contributor to interacting with other people and, ultimately, leading them. Likewise, a leader can always become better at developing other people. It's impossible to apply one general guide to success for every person, so it is important to know the person with whom a leader is working with so that they can poke and prod in all the ways needed to bring out the best in that unique person.

-Logan McKee
