Students pick an issue (at school or in the community, county, state, country) that they want addressed. They learn modes of persuasion as well as letter-writing skills and then write a letter to the appropriate person, persuading them to make change.

For example, one of my students wrote a letter to the principal pointing out that the boys’ school uniforms had pants, but girls were supposed to wear skirts. She viewed this as sexist and persuaded the principal to change the dresscode  to allow girls to wear pants.   • Jessi: Salamander Project/Science: BLM and students conduct study on Headwaters salamanders.  Students submit findings/write-up.  Crystal: post Boy in the Girls Bathroom send survey about school environment to other schools, conduct interviews, observe other schools, create suggestions.  Laura: How-to classroom library of books published by each student showing what they know most about.  Gabe: Students elect representatives, propose laws, overturn vetoes, and argue before the Supreme Court (Principal or City Council member).  Choose city ordinance they would like to propose or change/remove - write up and send to City.
