1) Infrastructure funding 
- Taxes are a necessary evil. No one enjoys the concept of them, but many like the outcome. Without taxes, who would build our roads? Bridges? Other things that we all use on a daily basis? There is no other efficient and safe way to fund these things besides taxes currently. 
2) Helping the disadvantaged 
-Helping those in need is important in order to reduce things like crime and increase things such as education to break the cycle of government reliance. We pay money towards certain programs such as food assistance to make sure that everyone can have food regardless if they cannot afford it or not. We basically invest in these people in order for them to "get back on their feet" and eventually support themselves. 
3) Safety
- Without paying taxes towards safety such as firefighters, police officers, and emergency services we would not have these programs available to us and chaos would ensue. Your house is on fire? Better get a bucket I guess.
