If the child hates reading outloud, inaccuratley reads, reads slowly, or isn't interested in reading books with topics they like. If they have poor handwriting, difficulty holding a pencil, or can't tie their shoelaces. If they don't use puncutation, or spell the same simple words wrong. Take twice as long to finish homework and not be able to finish tests on time.

In this video, Dr. Par Sharp, who has a PhD and studies nueroeducation, talks about what to watch out for for younger kids who have difficulties reading when they start school. The earlier that you can identify that problems exist, the better the outcome. Some symptoms in people ages 3-5 are the child seeming uninterested in playing games with language sounds, having trouble learning nursery rhymes, frequentley mispronouncing words, fail to recognize letters in their name, and have difficulty remembering the names of letters, numbers, or days of the week. For ages 5 to 6, some signs are failing to recognize letters, trouble breaking up syllables like cowboy into cow and boy, cannot recognize rhyming words, fails to connect letters to sounds, and recognizing phonemes.

It talks about the genetic link behind the disability, which is the deletion of the DCDC2 gene, which makes it harder for people to see certain types of movement.
My Personal Summary

I chose this topic because dyslexia is a common disability that people have, so I chose this because I wanted to understand the people with dyslexia better. The way that I was able to achieve understanding people with dyslexia better is from the 360 degree video that simulated being dyslexic, which showed me the world through the eyes of someone with dyslexia. Another way I was able to achieve this was by watching videos where kids would explain their struggles with dyslexia and how they overcame those struggles.

I was able to learn a lot from the videos, other than what life is like through their eyes. I learned a lot about the early symptoms for someone with dyslexia, like how kids ages 3-5 might have difficulty learning nursery rhymes. Or how kids 5-6 might have difficulties breaking up syllables. Like many other learning disabilities, it is better to catch dyslexia earlier on so the kid will not have as hard of a time catching up later in life. Something else that I learned that I found interesting was that there are genetic links behind the learning disbility. The deletion of the DCDC2 gene would make it harder for some people to see certain types of movements. And the ROBO1 gene may weaken certain parts of the brain, like the auditory pathway, and make it take longer for someone with this to understand something.
