Even though our country states that "all men are created equally" it hasn't always been that way. American-Indian's have been discriminated against since Europeans took their land and their rights away. American-Indian's have been fighting for their rights for many years.

People with disabilities have been treated unfairly for many years. They were separated from other people, ignored, or even forgotten. Luckily, advocacy groups formed and have been fighting for their rights for many years. There has been a lot of progress with how people with disabilities are treated and viewed.

California, New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, and Wyoming were once part of Mexico. In the 19th century the United States and Mexico went to war and the US conquered that part of Mexico. Many Mexican-Americans dealt with racism for many years after the land was taken from them.

In May of 1919, the 19th amendment was approved by Congress. Even though it was approved, it took a year for it to become law. Women had been fighting for this since the 1800s through the creation of various advocacy groups.

After Japan bombed the United States, during World War II , many Japanese-Americans faced discrimination in the United States. Since they "looked like the enemy" many people, including the Supreme Court, thought it was correct to force them out of their homes and place them in internment camps. The Supreme Court stated that discrimination was unconstitutional unless war broke out. The rights of people who look like the enemy are still unclear today.
