He is the "wisest man alive" and was saved by Kratos as he had been turned into a tree. Mimir considers Kratos a "brother" to him. He has plenty of knowledge and tales about the Norse world that he is happy to provide to Kratos and Atreus. He also is trying to gain as much control as he can over the realms to focus his attention on his past.
