The modern tradition indicates that the origin goes back to beginnings of 1620 in Plymouth (Massachusetts, the USA). In 1620 a ship called 'Mayflower' came from England to this town, northeast of what we know today as the United States (founded in 1776). Once there, the Indians helped the English to harvest the land in the settlement in which they had settled. In 1621, after a successful harvest, the one appointed as governor of the Plymouth colony organized a party to invite those Indians who had helped them to a meal as a token of their gratitude. This fact became an annual tradition, expanded through the territory and today is a national event.
