No hands up, except to ask a question

Students only raise their hands if there is a question they want to ask otherwise the teacher will post a question and students to be given time to think about the question, and then the teacher selects the student or students to respond, at random. By doing so, the teacher is able to find whether the students understand the lesson and conversely the students tend to be more attentive as they might be called upon to answer.

Class vote
students gets to vote on which answer they believe are correct. This method results in student having to make a stand in their own answers and to explain their answers to their peers. As a result, misconceptions of the answers can be addressed when students share with one another how they derived their answers.

Mini whiteboards
Students have the mini whiteboards throughout the lesson whereby they will answer questions posted by the teacher during the lesson as well as any queries that they may have. Through this, the teacher can quickly access students' understanding and progress during the lesson and address any misconceptions immediately. Also, students get to see their classmates various views and think deeper in the topic instead of being narrow-minded.

Basketball discussion
Discussion moves from teacher to student to student to student and so on. Students are often more comfortable engaging in a discussion that is not entirely teacher led, and this also engages more students than the usual hand-raisers who dominate discussion. You can also encourage participation – particularly with younger students – by actually tossing a small bean bag or soft ball from student to student as a means of signaling discussion; the one with the ball is the one who is allowed to speak.

Basketball Discussion
Teacher acts as the facilitator here and the discussion progresses from student to student. This ensures that all students are engaged in the discussion and the quiet ones are encourage to participate. It also helps to ensure that dominant students are not the ones hogging the discussion.
Besides tossing a physical object like a balloon, the teacher can make use of the Smartboard with the name selector or call the next student to participate in the discussion using number heads.

Hot Seat Questioning
pupils are kept in the 'hot' seat as they have to pay attention to the questions their peers are being asked because the next question would be a follow-up question or pupils would basically be asked to comment or summarize their classmate's comment. this forces pupils' to pay attention as the hot seat may move to any pupil in the class.
