I made this Daily Schedule for my Intro to Special Education class. I really like this idea. It helps autistic students know what is going to happen throughout the day. When they complete the task they can move it to the finished section and then they know what they are going to do next. This is a great visual aid that can help autistic students make it through the school day (or home) easier.
I made it as a folder that can be carried around but it can also be a flat paper for their desk, or a chart in front of the class room.

Also, netted swings hanging from the ceiling or door can be used for the same purpose or for children who cannot walk.

It also provides pictures which gives the kids a visual with each card and option. I got this idea off of Pinterest but the cards are available on Teachers Pay Teachers!

There are 24 school classroom choices and the ability to add your own on the blank template
Familiarize the child to the school classroom icons. When possible, match the icon to the actual school classroom item.
Practice making requests by having child POINT to “I want” and POINT to the school item icon of his/her choice. For example, “I want pencil,” pointing and/or saying each word.

Students with special needs need more attention when it comes to when they have a problem arise in class. If one of my students feel like they have a problem I want to point it out and tell me so that I can control it and help them get through it. I think a sign like the one I have posted would help me reach my students when they need help with a problem. Having a poster like this can help my student and I walk through what is going on and help fix it with knowing how serious the problem is. I think parents like to know that the teacher is willing to and interested in their child’s problems and how we are going to control the problem. I believe that students also want to know that you care about their problems, so having something like this can help them see that we are going to walk through it and help them.

I truly believe that special ed students thrive on routine and knowing what if going on throughout there day. Some behaviors are actually triggered by going off routine or the student being unsure of what situation is happening next. When I did practicum hours inside the special education room I noticed something that I thought was SUPER AWESOME for the students that needed it. I love schedule boards and plan to utilize them within my classroom.

When I was in elementary school we would get into groups of three, and we would have a paper to look at of a tangram picture. Then we would make our own picture of the drawing using tangram puzzle pieces. Using tangrms puzzle pieces help students with their understating of special awareness. Children need to rotate and move the puzzle pieces to copy a picture. The use of tangram puzzle pieces in the classroom can help a child to understand two-dimensional pieces, shapes and space. Flipping rotating and moving shapes around are great practice for early math skills too.

I would use painting as a technique to help a special needs child to show his or her feelings . By working one one one to have them paint different emotions how they are feeling such as happy sad mad or angry . And then a different day I would ask that we paint pictures of fruit and I would place the fruit in front of the child and after he or she paints it they get to have the fruit as a snack . This also teaches them sensory ,touch , taste and smell . Painting is away to relax and just let their amagine run wild . I love working with special needs children . I have experienced working with a downsydrom little boy and taught him to walk and also helped him sign language he was just the most fun child to work with he loved playing blocks the joy he had doin so was priceless . 💙

Nothing is more entertaining and relaxing to me than going on a hike. I personally go every chance I get since I enjoy being outside and letting my dogs explore. I without a doubt think teaching the importance of nature and healthy lifestyles to individuals with special needs is a must considering there seems to be a reoccurring trend of unhealthy habits amongst these individuals within my experiences of working with them. I understand that not all of them may be able to do trails or anything like that, but that doesn't mean there aren't areas that excludes everyone as even taking the time to sit in a clearing and have lunch, look at plants, and just enjoy the fresh air. There should be so much more to learning than just sitting in a stuffy classroom!

Students with disabilities often have trouble with independent learning. You can do special instructions for the kids that struggle and more scaffolded support such as having the tasks broken down for them into more manageable chunks, visual aids, and frequent checking to ensure they are on the right track. In the classroom, the teacher can give them instant feedback and support.

I love this idea! Having a cozy center in which will be available to calm down their bodies, all while being able to tell you how they are feeling through pictures in that center, because it might be hard for them to get their words out or express their feelings especially at a younger age. We use this in the facility where I work, and it has worked amazingly for the students.

Providing a calm down corner can help ease the minds of the children that are needing to express their feelings. This is also a great way for nonverbal kids to show you how they are feeling. A feelings chart can provide closure on how a child is truly feeling.

In our class we do have a little boy that would be in the Special Education category. We have something called a Cozy Cube and he uses it often when he is feeling overwhelmed or upset. Not only does it help him but it does benefit the other children. This is our safe place in the classroom where the children can go when they are having big feelings and don't know how to sort through them.

I plan to have a calming corner in my future classroom. I believe this is great for all students to utilize. With posters for breathing techniques to trace with their finger or a pointer it helps regulate breathing and calm the student down. With positive affirmations and other posters that help students recognize their emotions and find a calm down technique that works the best for them.

I plan to have something like this in my classroom, or a calming down station. I feel that this is something that is very important to myself and students as well. Place to recuperate and a place to feel safe and alone when you need time to yourself. I would have stuff to also calm the students down in this station such as the calm down kit, the stuffed animals, posters, books, and how to calm down when upset key ring card holder. Love this idea so much!!
