The trait theory is the interactional approach to personality and sports behaviour. An example of this is in competitive sporting situations is a penalty , in this situation its easier to predict behaviour than personality traits. Theres also two personality types introverts and extroverts. the difference between the two is that introverts are shy, quite and less confident where as on the other hand extroverts are are loud , outgoing and confident.

The conclusions are that trait views are too simplistic and that personality alone cannot predict success in a sporting environment. The situational approach is different from the trait theories approach as it says that behavior is dependent on your situation or environment

This a type of therapy that attempts to reveal unconscious thoughts and desires. The first part is called the ‘id’ which stands for instinctive drive. It is the part of your personality that is unconscious and makes you do certain things without thinking about them. For example a sprinter on the start line in the Olympic final may feel so threatenedby the expectations upon them that they respond withlarge levels of anxiety and their muscles automatically freeze.
