She also likes this young man, "prince charming,"  in the movie. And although she was scared of change, she changes her values, personality, and appearance to get his attention and to fit in. She starts off as this innocent girl, and turns into someone she is not. This may lead people to think that they have to look a certain way, and like other girls to fit in and feel pretty. I know I have thought I have to look like other girls, in order to pretty. At the end though, she realizes something because of her friends. She realizes,  no matter what you do to yourself, you are the same person underneath. They have power under the men, and their power helps the men. For example, Professor McGonagall is under Professor Dumbledore. Also, Hermione Granger is under Harry Potter. She is made fun of for her looks when she was younger, and her knowledge. Throughout the movie her being smart was accepted, but it was not used for herself. Her smartness benefited others, mainly Harry and Ron. She always came up with solutions to their problems, and helps them emotionally and mentally throughout the whole story. I feel that happens a lot today, which is why it's harmful. Men are seen as the financial supporters and are praised for it. Girls are just suppose to be under them, to support and comfort them. Women are portrayed as soft hearted, bubbly, air headed, and emotional people in movies and our society today. Girls can be independent, strong hearted people, there is nothing wrong with it. In the song she talks about the standards of men and women in relationships. The men are able to be more free, while girls are expected to do certain things and act certain ways. In the video and lyrics she shows the expectations of the gender roles in relationships. She shows and says that if she was the man in the relationship she can roll out of the bed and wear whatever she wants to. Girls are expected to be up early to get all dolled up, and make the meals for their loved one. If she was a boy she would be able to go out with her friends, and chase after other people. If she were to do that she wouldn't be confronted for it because she is a guy, and people will stick up for her. She would turn off her phone, and make the rules as she goes. She would tell everyone it's over, so they'd think that she was sleeping alone. She says men do that because they know they have a faithful woman waiting for them at home. She explains that if she were a boy, she'd be more understandable. She'll know how the women feel because when you lose the one you wanted, it hurts. She just feels that are men are men, and they do not understand. Men don't care and don't understand, until they lose the one they wanted because he was taking her for granted. I think this is something that definitely takes place in relationships today. There are certain roles and expectations for women to play. If they don't play that role they are seen as unfaithful, and they are not wanted by men. That is harmful because everyone should be equal. Both genders should be understanding, and have the same expectations. Men can go out and have fun, but the women should be able to. No matter what if you are in a relationship, you should remain loyal, put yourself in the other person's shoes, and view things from their perspective.
