I LOVE books written in free verse. I really thought I would hate this format but it's just about my favourite kind of book to read now. I also really favour own voice books. #ownvoices (Google definition) is a hashtag movement, started on Twitter, used to recommend books about diverse characters that have been written by authors from that same diverse group. In this case, Ellie Terry, like her main character, has Tourette Syndrome. You don't see many books that highlight Tourette's. This is the sequel to Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus. I thought the first book was okay, but this...I LOVED! It's just a bit older and deals with more mature subjects as the main character, Aven (a girl born with no arms), is now in highschool and trying to navigate friendships and crushes.
