         <title>MAHATMA Gandhi</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Gandhi was the first person to believe that non-violent protest were a powerful way to make change and he inspired other civil rights leaders, such as Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela.<br>He was born in 1869 in India. After studying Law in England, he moved to South Africa and he worked to get basic civil rights for Indian immigrants there.<br>In 1914 Gandhi returned to India, he became a political activist and he led the movement against British rule in India. He organised peacefully protests for the Indipendence and he was sent to prison. Gandhi became very popular and Indians called him as their father. They gave him the name "Mahatma", which means "Great soul". <br>One of his famous quotes is:</div><blockquote> Be the change you want to see in the world.</blockquote>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Martin Luther was an American pastor humanitarian and leader in the African American Civil Rights Movement.<br>He was born in Georgia,on January 15,1929,and in 1948 entered a Seminary in Philadelphia. He protest for the liberty of the black man and he protest for the nonviolent versus the black man.In 1953 he had married Coretta Scott.<br>In 1954 he became the minister of a black Baptist church in Montgomery and a year later he led the first nonviolent protest again segregation.In 1995 he graduated from Bostom University School of Theology,Martin Luther inspired blacks the South to boycott stores were black workes were refused jobs and to hold sit ins in restaurants that did not serve black customers.Many leaders were assassinated and thousand people were put in prison.<br>Martin Luther was arrested more than 30times and in the summer 1963 he led a march for civil rights on Washington DC 250,000 people from all over the country gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in on of the greatest demonstration.<br>In the 1964 he were awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace and in 1965 the congress passed the voting rights,Martin Luther devoted his time to the issues of poverty and war.<br>Finally on 4 April 1968 Martin Luther King was assissinated in Memphis,Tennessee.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

Thanks to movements like the African-American Civil Rights Movement, segregation is now against the law in the United States.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Rosa Parks was born in Alabama on 4TH February  1913. She wanted to be a teacher  but had to leave school to help her mother and granmother. In 1932 she married Raymond Parks. They were both enthusiastic about Civil Rights . In 1955 she worked in a shop. On 1 December 1955, SHE REFUSED TO GIVE UP HER SEAT to a white man. Her subsequent arrest and trial for this act of civil disobedience trIggered the Montgomery Bus Boycott, one of the largest and most successful mass movements against racial segregation in history .During a 1956 radio interview with Syudney rogers in West Oakland , Parks was asked why she decided noT to vacate her bus seat. Parks said," i would have to know for once and for all what rights i had as a human being and a citizen of Montgomery, Alabama. In 1996 she received a special prize from President Clinton . She is a symbol of freedom and equality. She died in 2005 .<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

The Apartheid was a form of racial segregation which end only in 1994. During these years blacks couldn't use the buses, schools and hospitals reserved to white people. There were only few people who tried to overthrow the regime.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Nelson Mandela was an important man for the liberation of South Africa,he fought against apartheid it was a separation of races.Mandela was born in 1918 from a tribe.His name was given by his teacher.<br>He became a lawyer and he fought against the apartheid with another lawyer:Oliver Tambo.Mandela was the vice president of an important political party called The African National Congress(ANC),he adopted a policy of peaceful resistance but there were a lot of violence towards black people.<br>In 1960 the ANC became illegal but Mandela continued his activities and he was arrested for 26 years from 1960 to 1990 when Mr.de Klerk the president of South Africa freed Mandela (he was in prison of Soweto).<br>On 16 th June 1976 twenty black school children were killed by white police during a peaceful demonstration outside their school.<br>In 1990 the apartheid stopped and in 1993 and they were both awarded the Nobel Prize.<br>In May 1994 after the election Mandela became the first black president of South Africa.<br>Finally Nelson Mandela died a 5 December 2013 for the lung infection,he was 95 years old.<br><br></div>]]></description>
