He was born in 1869 in India. After studying Law in England, he moved to South Africa and he worked to get basic civil rights for Indian immigrants there.
In 1914 Gandhi returned to India, he became a political activist and he led the movement against British rule in India. He organised peacefully protests for the Indipendence and he was sent to prison. Gandhi became very popular and Indians called him as their father. They gave him the name "Mahatma", which means "Great soul".

Martin Luther was arrested more than 30times and in the summer 1963 he led a march for civil rights on Washington DC 250,000 people from all over the country gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in on of the greatest demonstration.
In the 1964 he were awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace and in 1965 the congress passed the voting rights,Martin Luther devoted his time to the issues of poverty and war.
Finally on 4 April 1968 Martin Luther King was assissinated in Memphis,Tennessee.

People of all races have fought against segregation and discrimination in the United States. Thanks to movements like the African-American Civil Rights Movement, segregation is now against the law in the United States. However, discrimination against minority groups still exists.

Parks said," i would have to know for once and for all what rights i had as a human being and a citizen of Montgomery, Alabama. In 1996 she received a special prize from President Clinton . She is a symbol of freedom and equality. She died in 2005 .

In 1990 the apartheid stopped and in 1993 and they were both awarded the Nobel Prize.
In May 1994 after the election Mandela became the first black president of South Africa.
Finally Nelson Mandela died a 5 December 2013 for the lung infection,he was 95 years old.
