After receiving his bachelor of arts in kinesiology and biology from California State University, Long Beach, his first job as an educator was with the Long Beach Unified School District, during which time he coached the wrestling team and taught life science and biology as a bilingual speaker. Additionally, he called games as a stadium announcer for the school’s varsity football team. Later, Kenny Torres worked as a science educator with the Los Alamitos Unified School District and also served as head varsity wrestling coach. While coaching at Los Alamitos, he was named Orange County Wrestling Coach of the Year after his team won the Sunset League Championship, for the first time in the team’s history. Furthermore, he was named Sunset League Coach of the Year on six occasions.
