The Che Kung Temple was built and managed by the Tin Sam Village of Tai Wai. It was built 300 years ago to “honour Che Kung in a desperate move to stop an epidemic that was spreading across the Sha Tin area”. It has been regularly maintained since then.

Tsang Tai Uk was originally called Shan Ha Wai, started construction in 1847 by Tsang Koon-Man as a stronghold for the Tsang clan. The building later gained its current name after the Second World War after it housed displaced families at the time. In the 1970s, the surrounding area underwent a major change but the building was kept the same due to its historical significance. However, the building was only 2.5 metres above sea level and suffered severe flooding and had to have a drainage system devised.

The Sha Tin Racecourse was built in 1978 under the administration of Sir David Akers-Jones, who was the secretary for the New Territories at the time, so that the British could enjoy horseracing in Hong Kong. It is still being used present day for the same purposes.

New Town Plaza, Sha Tin Centre Street, Sha Tin

New Town Plaza was opened on January 18th, 1985. It started as a “simple” 9 storey shopping mall but then a large number of more international shops and restaurants started to pop up. Situated between Sha Tin Station and Citylink Plaza, a pick up/drop off zone for taxis, a multi-floor underground parking lot and bus stations up and down the street and even its own MTR exit, it is easily reachable. Over the years, some of these stores have come and gone, and a set of residential buildings, multiple outdoor areas and a cinema along with a small “Snoopy’s World” theme park have been constructed.
