Odysseus rushes to rescue his men after hearing the new from Eurylochus and gets help from Hermes who gives him a magical plant to protect him from Circe's magic. Circe turns his men back into humans but puts them in a trance and they all stay for a year until Odysseus begs her to let them go. She says they must first visit the land of the dead and hear a prophecy of the ghost Tiresius.

6. Once you return home you will fight the suitors and once you kill them all..
7. You will walk inland and implant your oar and sacrifice a bunch of animals to apologize to Poseiden
8. If you do this you will die peacefully.

Odysseus then tells them not to eat the sacred cattle, but overcome with hunger, they disobey once again and eat the cattle. This angers Helios who tells Zeus and Zeus kills all of Odysseus's men. This leaves Odysseus alone and he drifts to Ogygia, the land of Calypso. Odysseus is now finished telling his story to King Alceniuous.
