They became close and he said that he could give Shin a place to stay. So once they got off the train they got something to eat and Shin payed for all of it using the little money he had.  The guy asked for Shins coat to use and he would bring it right back. The guy tricked Shin and he never returned. This happened to in Camp 14 from torture. He was being tortured because the guards wanted to get information out of him about his mother and brother's escape. This shows resilience because he was held in the torturing place for so long but he still came out the other side and lived everyday as best as he could.
