My name is Audra Harl. I am from Newman, CA. I was raised in town, but started showing rabbits in 4-H when I was 13. I showed goats and cattle in college, and attended Merced College for my A.S. I transferred to Chico State, and after earning my B.S. in Animal Science I attended Kansas State University for my M.S. After KS I went to Virginia Tech for my Ph.D. I have worked with all sorts of livestock, but sheep are my favorite (goats are a close second)! I have a zoo of animals, but I love my dogs.

I am looking forward to getting to know each of you this semester, and learning about animals!

My name is Danielle Nuttall but I go by Dani. I am from Yuba City, CA however I was born and raised In Salt Lake City, UT until I was 11. Moving from a big city with 2 million people to rural Yuba City with 60,000 people was quite a culture shock at first. I was not raised on a farm but I went to a local dairy many days a week as a child to help milk the cows. It started my love for animals and agriculture. When I moved to Yuba City I was able to learn more about agriculture and get involved in the industry. I decided to go to Shasta College after SC Field Day my senior year because I loved what the agriculture program had to offer! I am currently double majoring in Animal Science and Agriculture Business. Growing up I have always wanted to be Veterinarian however I have decided to pursue a career in Agriculture Education after my ag teachers made such a positive impact on my life. I am looking forward to taking this class and learning more about running an operation in hopes to someday produce my own livestock. I can't wait to learn about reproduction because I think it is super interesting! All animals are amazing but I love cats, elephants, and cattle the most!

I can't wait to learn new things and make new friends this semester!

My name is Tiffani Sparling. I was born in Vancouver, Washington, but was raised in Redding. I was never raised around a farm, or even been around one much till I obtained my own piece of land a few years ago. Since then, my little farm here at my house grows slowly but surely everyday. Currently, I have over 20 fruit trees, and an in progress winery. Super excited for the next big move. I took a break from school for a little while to build my house, and this is my second semester back. My goal is to finish my Animal Science degree then to transfer to the University of Reno, Nevada. I have always loved animals since I can remember, and I want to get myself up there so I can potentially take care of my own farm as an official Veterinarian. I’m really looking forward to making more friends in the field, and excited to see what is in store for the future.

I love ALL animals I currently have a litter of kittens barely at 8 weeks, and a tortoise that is under a year old!

In highschool I raised market lambs through FFA, which I was very active in. I decided to attend Shasta College because of the different Agriculture. I am studying Agriculture science, and plan to pursue a career in Agriculture Education. I took this class because I love working with livestock, and I was looking for any opportunity to get my hands dirty. I have grown up learning how to vaccinate, care for, tag, and evaluate livestock but I can't wait to learn more of the scientific side of things! My favorite animals are Jersey Cows!

My name is Caleb Rowe and I have grown up in Redding all of my life. We always had chickens as I grew up but when I was in 8th Grade I got interested in livestock and farm animals after going up to a fair in Cresent City with my cousin. I began 4H here in Redding and raised swine for 3 years, it was more fun than I expected. I decided to attend Shasta College because it was not only local but also because it means I can get a good education for much cheaper than a University. This is at least for two years until I transfer to a four year. I am wanting to Major in Agricultural Sciences and I know that Shasta has the means to allow me to do that. I'm taking this class because its required for my degree but I'm also really interested in how everything related to livestock works. I'm looking forward to gaining a better understanding of how livestock is affected positively and negatively by our actions as humans and what I need to know for my future as a ranch owner. My favorite animal is probably a goat, pig, or mountain lion.

My name is April Patterson and i've lived in Redding Ca my entire life but I was born in Sacormento Ca. What brought me to Shasta College was high school cridits. I am a junior in high school and a crdit counted at the college is 3.33 cridits at my high school. But when I turn 18 I am going to become a full time student at Shasta College and transfer to UC Davis to finish my schooling and become a vetnarian. I live on a small farm with goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and dogs. I have 3 goats and I want to lean how to help them and handel them the proper way. I have 5 dogs and one of them curently have an ear enfection from fleas getting into his ear. But I am taking care of it and the enfection is going away slowly. The reason I singed up for this class is so I can help take care of my goats and any other livestock my dad buys and brings home. Also so I know what to do when I am a vetnarian and I can help livestock when they need it.

My name is Alexandra Ewing, although I do prefer just Alex, I was born and raised in Redding but moved away at 12 years old to a little aggie town called Davis, Ca. I had a general and basic love for animals but it wasn't until my sophomore year in high school when I enrolled in an Agriculture class that my love for livestock really blossomed. I was immediately hooked by the hands on learning style of my agriculture class and in order to become more involved I joined my FFA chapter and took on summer projects where I raised a variety of meat purpose animals for our county fair. I fell in love with the industry and the animals and I strive to find my niche in animal reproduction industry for my future career. This is my third semester here at Shasta College and I'm looking to transfer to Chico State and eventually attend UC Davis! It's silly how excited I am for this class and I took it because although it's just a first step, its a first step in the right direction. I'm looking forward to everything I'm going to learn in this course about working with and caring for livestock and excited about any reason to to get my hands dirty! I've raised lambs, hogs, goats, chickens, and turkeys but my all time favorite are lambs but then again, I'm not very picky when it comes to animals!

My name is Cierra Cook. Pictured here is my adorable niece Amari, one of my two dogs, Gentry and I. I grew up in a tiny gold mining community (about 1000 people) called Round Mountain Nevada which is right smack in the middle of the state. I moved to Redding my freshman year of high school about 9 years ago. I wanted to go to Shasta College because it is inexpensive. My husband and I are both going to school full time and work full time to make that possible. My major is Ag Animal Science. At the end of the road I am looking to become a large animal veterinarian that is board certified in surgery. I am planning on transferring into Chico State's Animal science program and then will more than likely move to Athens Georgia to attend UGA to obtain my DVM while my husband will also attend there and go to their law school. I am taking this class as it is a required class for my major but also I wanted to be back on the farm. I am looking forward to learning more, and getting another chance to work with the large animals. My favorite animal is a pitbull. I adopted Gentry (pictured below) right before I graduated high school and it has lead me to a passion of fighting for pitbulls, and teaching others of the kind and loving animals they are.

I have zero agriculture background in my family. My first experience in agriculture was when I started college last year! I wanted to come to Shasta College because my mom attended here and it is the closest college to me. I spent a year after high school deciding on whether or not I even wanted to go to college, but I am glad I did! My major is Agriculture Animal Science. I'm not positive what I want to do when I grow up, but I'm positive it will involve animals. Right now I'm a dog groomer and I really enjoy that. I am taking this class because it is required for my degree and because I love working with the livestock. I am looking forward to learning more about the animals and getting to be hands on and working with the livestock. My favorite livestock animals are goats and cattle, but my favorite non-livestock animals are penguins and dogs. My dog, Dodge, is pictured down below with me!

What brought me to Shasta College was a program called College Connections ( I spent my senior year of high school at Shasta College). But what really made me stay with this college was how great the Ag program is here! My major is in Animal Science right where I want to pursue my career in working with animals. Something else that sparked my interest in live stock was that I had got the opportunity to raise turkeys at my school farm. I showed in 4H as a kid first with goats an then with cattle. I was only in high school for about a year and a half when I decided to go on independent study and graduate early, downside of this being I didn't do all the fun FFA things I had planned as a freshman. I was however the beef ambassador for my county during this time. My major is currently undecided but I plan on making it sustainable agriculture. I don't know exactly what I want my career to be, I currently have a great job that I absolutely adore at Outback Construction in Red Bluff so I may see where that takes me. I do think however that agriculture is what pulls at my heart strings the most and most likely will peruse a career in the cattle or equine industry. I look forward to hopefully learning some ways of bettering my heard with the knowledge I gain in this class.

And although I'm typically fairly partial to my cattle and horses...my favorite animal is my dog Stanley (pictured below) as you can see he is perfect.

I chose to go to Shasta College because it is close to my home and has a very good Agriculture program. I am majoring in Animal Science. But I am not sure on what I want to do when I graduate, though lately I have been heavily considering zoo keeping. I am taking this class because it is a requirement for my major but also because I love working with animals and this class will allow me to do that. Being able to learn new things about animals and having hands on experience will be lots of fun. The question of what my favorite animal is kind of hard, I have many animals that I would consider my favorite, but I think my top favorite animal would be a Red panda, not many people have heard of them, but I have loved them since I was little and I saw them in the zoo.
The picture below is when my sister came to town and we went to see the bird exhibit at Turtle Bay.

Hey everyone! My name is Cassidy! I am a 29-year-old living in Red Bluff. I am married, have a 5-year-old daughter, and am currently expecting my second daughter come mid-December! (Some of you may have noticed the baby bump). I attended College Connections my senior year of high school- but after a full year of credits ended up dropping out due to my personal lack of maturity and not having a clue as to what I wanted to do with my life. I love all animals and don't see how I could choose a favorite- I have yet to come across one I do not like. For the past two years, my family has been fostering for a local animal rescue- we have cared for pregnant mama dogs/cats who were on the brink of euthanasia, and bottle-fed orphaned puppies and kittens who were in need. Over the past two years, we have fostered and helped adopt out over 100 animals! Through this process, I have found my passion for animal rescue. I came back to college a little over a year ago and am currently majoring in Agricultural Animal Science (since there is no longer a vet program within Shasta) and plan to transfer to Chico State for my bachelors- with the end goal being attending vet school at UC Davis. I am looking forward to this class and learning the business management aspect of it since eventually, I would love to open my veterinary clinic and feel this information could be extremely beneficial towards that. I'm usually behind the camera but found a photo (below) of myself and my daughter with some of our foster kittens from last year. I look forward to working with all of you!

Hey! my name is Alex Diaz and I am from good ole Cottonwood California. I decided to come to Shasta College because it is cheap, close to home, and caters to what I want to do. This is my second year here and I plan to transfer to Chico State next Fall to finish my degree in Animal Science. Im still not sure what I want to be when I grow up but, I do know that I would like to move out of Californian once I finish my schooling. I am taking this class to fulfill my general ed requirement for an AST IN Animal Science. I also enjoy working with livestock so I figured that it would be fun too. I am looking forward to learning more new things that will help me out in the future. My favorite animals have to be beef cattle and good dogs. I am excited to spend the rest of the semester with you guys and I look forward to meeting new faces.

Hello everyone! I am Jenn Spiker and I was born in Redding and have lived here all my life. I am attending Shasta College for the Diesel Technology and Ag Mechanics programs so I can learn how to operate, maintain, and repair tractors and heavy equipment. I am taking this and some other animal science classes because I have always loved working with livestock, particularly beef cattle, and hope to one day be able to rent or buy land to start a cattle operation of my own. The part of this class I am looking forward to the most is just any and all of the lab periods because I love hands-on learning and working with animals; however, I will probably enjoy the times where we work with cattle the most. I look forward to meeting everyone and working together!

P.S. My favorite animals are cattle and my pet cats.
