Date: July 11th
'Observing to learn'
This was the first observation day at primary school, so I was extremely excited.
As the students, I was really looking forward to this new experience. When we entered into the classroom both the class taecher and Miss Mariana introduced me. The students greeted me and Miss Mariana started the class.
This lesson was about toys, so the classsroom was just like a big toyshop. Full of photocopies and pictures of different ones. Planes, skateboards and dolls from the different activities were everywhere, making the classroom a really enjoyable place to be.
The class started by revising the previous vocabulary through some fllashcards. Then, Miss Mariana explained the task: to cut figures of different toys and glue them in the correspondent place to match them with their spelling.
Some pupils were quick to organize and start working, but others were a little distracted. The teacher went around the tables to guide learners through the activity.
Some of them stood up to ask for scissors or comment something to the partners.
Miss Mariana kept a record of each student work in her notebook.
Finally, the bell rang, and the teacher told the pupils to clean their tables and go out.
It was a wonderful day. Students were enthusiastic about the class and me observing them. I listened carefully to Miss Mariana, since, if we listen, we learn.

Date: July 14th
The second day of our adventure started. This time, there were less students since winter holidays were coming.
When we entered into the classroom, two of the girls gave me a beautiful card to wish me luck in my practicum period. How nice of them! I was really touched by that gesture. It was a wonderful start!
Miss Mariana greeted the students and asked one of the girls to write the date on the board. Then, the teacher wrote the tittle of a story on the board 'Racing everywhere'.
The students copied the title and sat on a circle to listen to Miss Mariana's story. She invited me to take part of the circle. We were all prepared to listen to her.
Miss Mariana had flashcards to tell the story. First, she introduced the characters by pointing at them. With the pupils' help, she described each of them physically.
Some boys were very talkative, so Miss Mariana changed some places.
The story was about three children who were playing video games when the power went off. So, they didn't know what to do and they got bored. But their father helped them to do their own cardboard cars and they ended up racing themselves in the garden.
When the story finished, the students were enthusiastic to work with the activities. The teacher asked them to go back to their seats. She stuck the flashcards on the board but in a different order. She wrote the names of the characters and asked pupils to do so in a photocopy with the same pictures she had handed in. She asked them to colour the characters. After that, they put the events in order together. They first ordered the fashcards on the board, and then on the sheet of paper.
While they were finishing the activity, the bell rang. So they tidied up, say goodbye and went out.
The race had finished for the day.

Date: August 1st
It was the first day after winter holidays. Pupils were happy to be back to English class. So they were very talkative and active, as little puppies going around the classroom, chatting and playing.
It took some time to Miss Mariana to organize the class. But, when everyone was ready, they started.
Today they worked with a story. The teacher started by drawing a present box on the board and explaining that it was a 'present'. Students asked her when her birthday was and, after answering it was in May, she handed in a photocopy with a story. She played the CD and they listened to the story.
When it was finished, they followed every part of it by repeating the dialogues and explaining what happened. The students were eager to participate. Then, Miss Mariana wrote the title of the story 'The Big Box' and the date on the board, and she handed in another photocopy with the disorganized story. Students put the pictures in the correct order and, next, they checked it all together, by listening to the story again.
When they finished the activity, the teacher explained on the board questions such as 'Is it a bike? No, it isn't.' 'Is it a present? Yes, it is.'
She asked students to copy the examples and to answer similar questions on another photocopy. As they were doing so, the bell rang and students tidied up and went out while saying goodbye to us.
It was the last day of observation, so next time we meet, it will be my turn to give the class. I feel very happy to be in this group. They are great and the teacher is very nice and kind. I can't wait to start!

Date: August 4th
'Getting to know each other'
The time had come. My first primary practicum was a new and exciting experience.
I started the class by greeting the students. They were all very attentive and eager to start this new experience. To begin in a relaxing and kind way, I showed them a poster on the wall with a Hello song on it. I told them that it would be our song to greet each other every class. First, I sang it without music so that they could listen to the lyrics and follow them on the poster. Then, I invited them to sing it along with the CD. They immediately started singing.
When we finished, I introduced myself and asked each of them their names. Once we all met, we started the class.
During these first lessons, we will work with 'famous families' as a conducting thred. So, I started by sticking two pictures showing a big family and a small one. They helped me to introduce the topic mentioning that there are many different kinds of families, big and small ones.
Then, I sticked the flashcards of the five main family members from The Sympsons, forming a family tree. The students immediately started naming the famous cartoon and its characters. So, I went through all of them by saying 'This is the father, Homer' and writing the family words: father, mother, brother, sister, and baby sister. As they already know some vocabulary about family, they pointed out that we can also say 'dad' and 'mum', so I included them on the family tree.
Then, I handed in a photocopy with the same family tree and asked them to label the family members looking at the board. During the activity, I went around the tables checking their work.
The next activity was also to work on a photopy, which contained pictures of different cartoon families. First we pointed out the big and small ones. Then, I asked them to concentrate on The Incredibles one. I gave intructions to colour each of the members of the family in a specific colour. Unfortunately, the bell rang and we had to finish the class.
Although I wasn't able to complete the lesson plan, I am completely happy with today's practicum. I feel there was a real connection with the students, as if I had been their teacher for ages. We were just like old friends gathering together.
I can't wait for our next meeting.

So, we started singing the Hello song, which, to my surprise, they already knew it.
As a warm up, we looked at the family tree on the board and we reminded the basic family members vocabulary together. Next, we finished the previous class' activity which consisted on following my instrutions to colour the family memebers.
When we finished, I introduced the extended family members, such as 'grandmother, uncle, cousin, etc.'
This was a good oportunity to introduce some possesive adjectives by using phrases such as: 'This is the grandfather. His name is Abraham'. While doing so, I labelled each of them with the new lexis. After that, students had to label a photocopy of the same family tree by cutting and pasting the words under the correct family member, so that they could keep it in their folders.
This activity took a little more than I expected and, when they finished, the bell rang, so all the pupils tidied up and we said good bye.
This was a great class, students participated very enthusiastically. I could notice that, as me, they also felt part of this school's big family.

Date: August 29th
'Time to apply what we have learnt'
Todays lesson was aimed to apply what we have been learning. Miss Mariana had asked me to prepare an assignment to have a written mark of the students, so I prepared a worsheet and a powerpoint for revision.
As usual, we greeted each other with our song. Then, I showed them again my family poster and described it. Once thay had an idea of how to do it, I invited some students with their own drawings to describe their families.
After that, we got into famous families world to complete the assignment. It consisted on watching a powerpoint describing different families. The first one was about Hannah Montana. It was complete as it was the example: 'He is the father. His name is Robby Ray'.
Then, they had to look at the powerpoint and complete the missing words about two other families: The Croods and Gravity Falls.
It was great because students wroked enthusiastically without worrying about the fact that they were being tested. While compliting the worksheet I also asked some volunteers to complete a poster with the last family's information. So that they could have it in the classroom for following classes.
When I corrected the assignments at home, I was very happy to see that there were only a few mistakes and that all the students had acquire the majority of the language exposed the previous class.
We finished the class with this activity because time was not enough.

Date: September 1st
'We open a new book'
Today we started a new unit and we did it going through the pages of a picture book I created about animals in their different habitats.
Our first lesson about them began by introducing our characters, Tom, Tina and their grandmother Ruby. I showed them that this rabbit family were reading a book about animals and, on the first page, they were on the farm. I turned to the second page and, one by one, I introduced each of the animals and asked them some questions about them. For example: ‘This is a horse. Is it big or small?’.
I had already drawn a chart on the board with four animal actions and pictures to ilustrate each of them (fly, swim, climb and run). I showed students labels of each of the animals so that each of them came to the board and placed it in the correct column according to what that animal could do. In this actibity I introduced CAN structure through animal farm context. They completed the same chart on a photocopy and glued it on their notebooks.
Then, it was time to turn ourselves into farmers. I handed in photocopies with the famous traditional song 'Old MacDonald had a farm' and I stuck a big poster with it on the board. The original plan was to use the project to show the video of the song on the big screen, but it wasn't available so I showed it on the computer. After watching the video , we completed the song on the photocopy and the poster together.
Everybody loved the song, so we sang it all together. It was great! Pupils loved it! They really looked like little farmers singing to their animals!

We adventured ourselves into the jungle.
After singing our Hello song, I showed students the next page of our book. One by one, I introduced the most usual animals from this habitat, making questions such as 'What colour is the elephant?' or 'Can a crocodile fly?'
Next, I pointed out real pictures of these animals which I had previously stuck on the board. I showed flashcards with their names and pupils took turns to go to the board and place them next to the correct image. When we finished, two volunteers handed in a photocopy with the animals pictures to label them as well.
The following activity was to look at a picture of some animals in the jungle, listen to an audio and answer the questions 'Can you see a...?' It was very nice to see students found the listening exercise easy and understandable.
As a closure, we completed a poster with a chart about what different animals from the farm and the jungle can do. I asked the questions and, raising their hands, pupils answered and went to the board to complete it.
It was a very productive lesson. We have made new friends and shared many experiences, but today we say goodbye.
As usual, we began the class with our song. Then, I introduced our book's characters for the last time and showed pupils that, this time, they had travelled to the ocean. So, again, I pointed the different animals and asked some questions while introducing them.
Next, I told students we would work with a story called 'Cleaning up the sea'. I handed in a photocopy with the characters and we listened to a recording in which they introduced themselves. First, they numbered the pictures according to it and, then, we wrote their names next to their pictures.
When we finished, I showed students more pages of our book, this time they contained the story, which I read as I showed some images of them.
After listening to the story, I handed in a photocopy with the pictures and they put them in order.
Moving on, we worked with body parts. First, labelling one of the characters on the board and then, on a photocopy. Secondly, we completed a little paragraph with its description.
She is Chloe. She is a ___fish___. She has got _a_ __body___. She has got _two_ ___eyes___, _a_ __mouth__,__a__ __tail___, and _two_ __fins___.
On the photocopy, they copied the example and completed the shark's description.
This was our last class, so when we finished I thanked the pupils and the teacher for the beautiful time we spent together and for receiving me in their classroom.

I said goodbye and gave them a present.
So the Primary Pacticum was over. It was an amazing time and I really enjoyed it. I learnt so much, that I will never forget it.
When students went out to the playground, I stayed with the teacher tidying up. One of the boys was very sad when he kissed me goodbye. And then, we noticed he was staring at me very sadly through the window. I felt so sad, because I could notice he would really miss me.
