The Japanese occupation changed Singapore's economy as Singapore once a thriving city with free immigration policies with Singapore as a strategic location, many traders came to Singapore creating many Job and Business Opportunities making Singapore a successful thriving port. After the Japanese occupation, with the wreckage of shops and factories and the disruption of trade which needed time to recover the number of jobs available for teenagers are scarce. Thus, the shortage in jobs caused Singapore to fall to poverty. The relationship between the different races were also affected but positively. Before the Japanese occupation, with the segregation of the races each ethnic group taking a quater of land, they do not share a good relationship with each other. But after the Japanese occupation, with the different races helping each other to overcome the war, their relationship was closer with them having the same goal, survival. Food shortage caused a lot of people to suffer from malnutrition after the Japanese Occupation.Before the Japanese Occupation, teenagers had enough to eat and had a variety of food but after the Occupation, teenagers had restricted foods to eat due to the food shortage.Teenagers feared that the Japanese would appear again even after it was announced that the Japanese had surrendered and left Singapore.Before the Japanese Occupation,teenagers were not afraid to go out but after the Occupation, they were afraid of the Japanese.Before the Japanese Occupation, people do not have a radio and there was nothing to do in the past as there was nothing to entertain them. However,they were also too afraid to sleep because people may break into their house so they had no freedom.
