On our group for the first week was me, pixie, rueben and jared.
We looked at a bunch of 60's music on youtube and found influences such as hey jude by the beatles and some songs from brenda lee. What we found out was that these songs have simple lyrics and chords and just flow without to much jazzing around. So jared researched some most used guitar chords of this time and we found G Em C D which we started to work on, however after a while loz came in and got us to try G C Em D and we started trying to play something completely different to our original idea.

This week jared didn't turn up so we had lydia and beth join us who werent there the previous week who filled in as backing singers. We found this to be important to the time of music, because many singers had back up singers to sing with them especially during the chorus.

I was a big part of coming up with the strumming pattern and was the one to suggest holding the notes longer in the chorus. I think that we worked really well as a group and were very successful in what we were aiming for.
critics: In week one no one mic'd jared up even though he needed it
I don't really have any other critics, I thought we were decently in time, only bad thing I could say about myself was that some of the notes I played didn't come out the best but that just needed some more practice on the song

Today we got put into a bizarre group. Loz put me in a room with three other guitarists, a basists and a singer. In my opinion I don't think it worked and I hated it. Having to many people in a group will almost always mean that you wont get your opinions heard unless you fully speak up so it was really bad in my eyes because only a few people took full on charge, whereas if it were a smaller group, everyone would feel comfortable enough to do what they want and voice their opinions.

Even though I hated the group we did in fact get a decent riff down and were on track for something which sounded like 70s/80s rock. We thought that rock would be the best to do because most of the best rock bands were around the 80s, such as Guns N' Roses and Bon Jovi.
Our singer yvie started to work on the lyrics and thought about using sunshine in a bottle because sunshine in a bottle was a drug around the late 70s in America so it was a clever idea using the lyrics because it portrays a whole different meaning of the song.

In this song I had my acoustic guitar with me which I amped up. It was a fairly simple riff which we played through the whole song. I have to admit, using a bunch of different guitars did give it a fuller more impacting sound but at times it just sounded cluttered because we were mostly playing the same thing. That was until Jordan decided to play the riff in a slightly different key to give it a different sound. At first it doesn't sound like it fits but the more you listen the more you feel that it made the song more, this got worked on more in our second week. For me on week one I feel like I messed up quite a bit with the riff and there were many times practicing where I accidentally played the wrong note, but that was just because of how hard it was to communicate and the fact we hadn't been playing for long.

This time we were allowed to pick our groups so I went in a group with my friends. This was important for me because I felt as though I could try really hard as I was the lead guitarist. It was a lot easier to talk and voice our opinions.

For example, I helped on writing some of the lyrics as well as my guitar parts.

We wanted to create a song which sounded timeless which i think we managed to do in the end.
Our idea started to do a ballad type sad love song. We found a lot of influence in artists like Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. We also found some inspirational songs which were:
Frankie goes to hollywood - the power of love
The smiths - theres a light and it never goes out
Tina turner - whats love got to do with it

What we learned from listening to these was that, most songs from the 1990s - 2000s eara were mostly focused on a tuneful melody with simple ballads to be sung over the top. Which i feel we incorporated extremely well, however it feels like we spiced it up a bit too which gave it a timeless feel.

The chords started off as C G D (on capo 4), which i picked and made a strumming pattern to and the such. However Lydia suggested we added a Em at the end which made the chords sound fuller and all together, better. When we first started playing we were both just strumming until i came up with the idea of doing lead and worked out some melody finger picking to go over the chords. All together we then agree to give the song a key change, which took us a while to work out. At first to make the song easier to play for lydia we decided to just move the capo up 2 and play the same chords, even tho that was a rubbish idea and probably made it even harder to play to be honest and would have made my solo impossible to perform. The chord change was B F C Dm and the song was in 4/4.
The chords that i play are different to the chords that the others played because of the capos, so the original chords are: E B F# AbM
D A E F#M
