Some of the ways in which my future students may be deficient in social wellness include: lacking positive and healthy relationships with others; failing to interact with people who may look different or who have different beliefs from their own; or may not see the value in contributing to the environment or society. Firstly, I can help students develop better social wellness by creating and promoting situations in which students are able to practice positive social interactions with each other. Other suggestions I might implement into my classroom are pairing students who have similar likes/dislikes to establish friendships; creating group assignments in which students begin to appreciate diversity; and encouraging them to join a club that interests them to feel a part of the community.

Some of the ways in which my future students may be deficient in spiritual wellness include: a lack of purpose for their lives; not having a clear sense of right and wrong; or not being able to reflect or meditate on their lives. No matter what obstacle in life a student may face, if they have a strong spirit they will be able to withstand the storm and not self-destruct. I can guide students to developing better spiritual wellness in ways such as: clearly stating my rules and expectations on the first day of class and throughout the school-year when necessary; include activities that develop character; and in some form, suggesting that students get involved with helping others.

To promote emotional wellness in students: create an environment in which reduces their amount of stress, as well as encourage independence to build higher self-esteem. However, there are some emotional or psychological issues that may be more serious. In this case, students should speak to their pediatricians, school counselors, and/or therapists if their emotional issues are affecting their daily lives. For example, all students should be aware of the free 24/hour suicide prevention hotline.

Teachers can promote occupational wellness by motivating students to begin thinking about their futures. Ultimately, the goal for educators must be for students to have a clear direction for their life once they graduate. Some examples of how teachers can help students reach occupational wellness is by incorporating career dress-up days; include career projects; or by having members of the community from various career fields come in and talk about what it is like to do the work they do.

Teachers can promote physical wellness in students by paying attention to both exercise and diet and creating a plan to live healthier lives that will fit their individual needs. Some suggestions include: getting students motivated to play hard at recess; taking short breaks in between lessons where students can move freely around the classroom; and by encouraging them to join a sports team or stay active during the day. Other suggestions include: encouraging students to drink plenty of water daily; pack healthy snacks; and make sure they are eating healthy lunches. One resource teachers can use is MyPlate, established in 2011 by the USDA, which requires that children are given a certain amount of food in each of the five food groups daily.

Teachers can promote emotional wellness by consistently reminding students of their value in many ways. Suggestions for educators include: encouraging autonomy and independence; teaching students proper decision-making skills; and guiding them to express their emotions in a positive and clear way. One example teachers can use to promote emotional wellness is by having students get into small groups to role play fictional scenarios where they are able to practice identifying their emotions.
