Steven Wise's verbal and written opposition is that every living being has a soul and that they should have more rights, be treated humanely and to be recognized as what they are not just an animal which people do not care if it suffers or not.The rhetorical appeals which he uses are Ethos, and Logos by mentioning that there were studies that proved that they are more similar to us and he also used proof by providing professional opinions.Steven Wise is an American legal scholar who specializes in animal protection issues, primatology, and animal intelligence. He is also founder and president of NhRP which means non human rights project. and has practiced animal protection laws for 30 years.

Mr. Wise argued that humans and animals are one in the same and that they deserve something called personhood rights. He uses a bit of very type of rhetorical appeal for example he used ethos when he mentioned that he is an actual lawyer and has been one for over 30 years. In the video he uses logos when he brought up the chimps in Japan and how they were even more intelligent then he was when it came to the memorization computer they used.

A rhetorical appeal he uses is logos. He uses logos when he discusses about how animals are similar to humans, and how their should be one to be able to defend their rights. Evidence he shares to help his claim is a document or research about how animals have the capability to express emotions and to adapt/react to something such as humans do.

Steven Wise states that the fundamental distinction is between being a thing and a person. He argues that certain animals should have limited "personhood" rights. Mr. Wise uses ethos in the beginning when he mentioned that he was a criminal defense lawyer that taught at Harvard Law School. He also demonstrated pathos through the clip of the monkeys being treated poorly. A piece of evidence that he provides is the computer memory game for the chimpanzees. In addition, Steven Wise is very passionate about animals. Not only does he teach at five different schools, but he also specializes in animal protection issues and animal intelligence.

He describes how they are mistreated and why they deserve the same rights. He believes that they should be seen as a person. The rhetorical appeals he uses are ethos and pathos. He knows that he has to prove himself and make himself look credited which is why he states that he's a criminal defense lawyer. He shows video clips of how they are being mistreated to get to the viewers emotions. Some evidence he showed was when he went to visit the Chimpanzees and he showed how they are very much like people. They need love and affection or else they will go depressed. Wise can be described as an animal activist. His main focus is animal protection. https://www.peta.org/about-peta/why-peta/why-animal-rights/

Wise mainly uses ethos, logos, and towards the end pathos. He uses ethos in the beginning of the video when he demonstrates that he is a credible person by being a professor at Harvard University. Secondly, logos is brought in when Wise brings in facts about how close the primates in cages are close to humans. Finally, Wise ignites a sense of pathos with the audience by going to visit a chimp in a cage after mourning the death of its partner.
