Human Skeletal System

The human skeletal system consists of 206 bones in an adult body, and 300 in a child's body. The skeletal system provides important functions of the body. They help with : Support, movement, Some protection of vital organs (they partially enclose the heart), blood cell production and storage of calcium.
The skeletal system is made up bones, tendons, ligaments and cartilage. I'll go over them all right now:
The skull:

The skull is made up of several bones that all protect your brain, The bones consist of:
Frontal bone, Parietal bone, Occipital bone, Temporal bone, Ethmoid bone and Sphenoid. There are multiple bones in your skull (a total of 22 that are made up of all the bones listed). All these bones protect the most important part of the body the brain. The brain pretty much orders your body to do what it does, from movement to blinking. With out it you'd be dead.

The Spine:

The spine is what makes you stand. It's one of the most important bones in your body (behind the skull and the other parts that make up the skull).
It gives your body structure and support, and allows you to bend and be flexible. The spine also contains all of your nerves that lead to different parts of your body and then to your brain. It carries out signals to your brain when you feel pain and relays them back to the nerve that got effected by what ever hurt you. E.g someone pricks you with a pin, this is sent through the nerves into your spine that then goes into your brain telling you that you got hurt and should probably move away from what ever hurt you relaying that back down to your hand making it move away.
Also because the spine connects to the whole of your body, if something were to damage your spine in a certain area it could leave huge effects on your body.

The arm bones and leg bones: Pretty simple but without them our lives would be a lot harder. They allow you to pick things up, throw object, Kick objects, walk, write, work, and many other functions.

The ribs:

The ribs are also one of the main bones in the body.
The ribs partially enclose vital organs in our body (Lungs and heart) The ribs are made up of long curvy individual bones with join connections the ribs mostly helps to stabilize breathing by expanding during respiration. The first 7 pair of ribs are called "True ribs" this is because they attach directly to the sternum by costal cartilages.

There are many more functions for bones, apart from supporting the body, they also store essential substances in them to help with growth and repair of the body. The skeletal system's cell matrix acts as our calcium bank and releases calcium when needed into our blood. And with out proper levels of calcium in our blood our nervous and muscular system wouldn't function properly.

(NOT FINISHED WILL ADD MORE INFO LATER)
- Kieran
