I recently did this with my project I just finished. I asked them for their feedback, then i asked them why they thought this. I also explained to them it is important for me as a teacher to get this feedback to help improve the project. I did get some awesome feedback.

For group collaborative projects, students receive feedback from a rubric - it's actually their growth measure. Throughout the project I'll provide feedback using the rubric, teammates provide feedback and they evaluate themselves.

I have a pretty heavy grading rubric for all of my projects and in order for students to clearly understand how I evaluate them, I first ask them to evaluate themselves. They also reflect on the project and think about what they think they did well and what they would change if they could. This gives me a very clear perspective of how they felt about the project as I evaluate them and what they think they excelled in. This also provides some very valuable feedback for me, because if I see students comment on struggles they experienced in many of the same areas, then I know that perhaps I need to adjust the way I am teaching the lesson.
