In my opinion Mr Eric Birling is a heavy drinker and is quite cocky he is from a middle class. Eric’s parents mr and mrs billing are still thinking of him as a “ young boy” as they call him it all the time in the play. He is also a player because he stole money to look after his mistress and he met in a bar and he saved her from prostitution and at first he was using her for sex but then the relationship expanded to a committed one. We see that he is a liar also because he told his wife that he was at work during the summer. That’s my opinion on him by leighton this is quite cool because I spoke and it wrote it all down pretty dandy that ei. X

In my eyes I saw Eric as a character who was treated as a child by his father Mr Birling and his mother Mrs Birling which then made Eric look like a innocent little child and would do nothing bad, little did we know. Through out the play what's very noticeable is the change of Eric's character, he begins the play as a character who is treated as a child, his father not letting him join into converstations and more, to a character that isn't the nicest or quitest like we thought he was, like when he was using Eva Smith and doing all this crazy stuff. That to me its like we are seeing a whole new Eric to the one we saw at the start of the evening in the play.

In my opinion im the start of the novel i think of Eric as a lovely character but he gets treated like a child and is treated badly by his father, Sheila means more to Mr Birling that Eric ever will. Mrs Birling gives ideas to the inspector on what to do to the father of the baby, but little did all the family know that Wric was the father of Eva Smiths baby. It was only Sheila and Eric that admitted to have taken part in Eva’s death. Towards the end of the play Eric’s character begins to change as he realises what sort of trouble he’s got himself into and he is very worried but at the same time he seems proud that he gave sheila some money to help herb survive her life as long as she did. Eric has changed completely since the start of the play by the end of the book.

In my opinion In the beginning of the novel Eric comes across as a young man who is still being treated like a child by his mother and father Mr and Mrs Birling , this shows us that Mr and Mrs Birling still though of Eric as a child rather than a young man . Eric is described as " not quite at ease , half shy , half assertive" in the beginning of the novel this makes us think that he is clearly uncomfortable in some way . He could be drunk at the beginning of the novel as he suddenly "guffaws" for no reason as it says in the novel that he drinks "pretty hard" . As we read more into the novel we find out that Eric was involved in a chain of events as an Inspector comes to Question the Birling family about a suicide that had happened involving a girl named Eva Smith . We learn that Eric Met Eva smith at the palace bar and was using her for sex we also learn that she received money from him but she put a stop to it as he was stealing , their romance lasted a summer and she was pregnant with Eric's child , However unlike his mother and father Eric accepts responsibility for his part in her suicide .

He's parents Mr and Mrs Birling still treats him like a child as they say "young boy" but he is in his early twenties. They first mention of him in the story is "Eric suddenly guffaws," as if he is nervous about something. It is not until the final act that we realise this must be because of his having stolen some money. It soon becomes clear to us although it takes his parents longer that he is a hardened drinker.
Gerald admits by saying, "I have gathered that he does drink pretty hard." He feels guilt and frustration with himself over his relationship with the girl. He had some innate sense of responsibility, though, because although he got a woman pregnant, he was concerned enough to give her money. He was obviously less worried about stealing or 'borrowing' from his father's office than he was about the girl's future.
At the end of the play, like Sheila, he is fully aware of his social responsibility of Eva Smith death.

Eric seems embarrassed and awkward right from the start. In his parent's eyes he is still treated as a "little boy". Eric is eager to be include in his father's and Gerald's conversation about their factories. But is soon becomes clear to us that Eric isn't a "little boy" but he is a heavy drinker and has played a big part in Eva Smith's death. His character changes when he feels guilty and frustration with himself and what has happened. Although he got Eva pregnant, Eric was concerned enough to give her money. This shows us the first sense of responsibility. Eric was properly less worried about stealing money from his father's office than he was about the Eva's future. Then, at the end of the paly like Shelia, he wants his parents to admit responsibility as he tells them "I'm ashamed of you". Eric is fully aware of his social responsibility . He is not interested in his parents effort to cover everything up.

Eric gets embarrassed throughout the book quite regularly, which mostly comes from his parents Mr & Mrs Birling. By the end of the novel it shows us that Eric has a pretty bad drinking habbit and its a problem. Also throughout the book it shows that Eric accepts and shows that he's part to blame for the death of 'Eva Smith'.

They met at the palace bar then escalated quickly when we soon find out that Eric used her for sexual intercourse. He provided her with money that he stole. Eric also has a drinking problem which led Eva to become more of a motherly figure to him. Eva Smith ends up in a terrible situation after being fired from her job, it led her to suicide, she committed suicide by drinking disinfectant, at the end of the novel Eric soon accepts the responsibility for his part of Eva’s death.
