1- Marbury was a judge appointed by the US president, John Adams. His lawsuit was when he was issued a commission as justice and peace but Madison refused to deliver it. causing Marbury to sue him to obtain it.

Adams named William Marbury one of the forty-two justices of the peace on March 2, 1801. When Jefferson took office on March 4th, he ordered the 4 commissions left to be withheld. This led to Marbury suing.
