It has given me an immense amount of confidence that I don’t think I would have, had I not chosen to play hockey. Since age five I have defined myself as a “hockey player”. I have put countless hours, broken bones, concussions, blood, sweat, and tears into the sport. Yet all my life I have heard phrases such as, “Girls can play hockey?”, “It's women's hockey, so it doesn’t count.”, “Who would want to watch women’s sports?”, among many much worse. Hockey has made me a tough, self-assured woman. I have learned to stand up for what I believe in. I attended catholic schools, I was baptized, received my first communion, and was confirmed. It was something I always believed in. Although, I shied away from religion for a while after I graduated high school. I found myself feeling as if something was missing from my life. I realized it was faith that I was missing, and it was a crucial learning lesson for me. When hockey didn’t proceed in college, I learned that I had a whole other side to me. I always had these spurts of creativity pop through all my life, so when hockey was officially over competitively, I really dove into that creative side in me. It was a blessing in disguise. Now being an artist is another way I describe myself. It has become another one of my passions.
